WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOP 25 PREVIEW

Rk.

Team

Comment

1.

Tennessee

Shanna Zolman

A deadly offense from low post to the arc.  Healthy year is a trip to the Final Four in Boston.

2.

Duke

Monique Curry

With the addition of Abby Warner the 2005 HS Player of the year, the Blue Devils have all the tools in the shed to be a Final Four team.

3.

Rutgers

Cappie Pondexter

A dynamic senior group will use their scrappy play to offset many good teams, leading them to Boston.

4.

LSU

Seimone Augustus

With the loss of All-American Point Guard Temeka Johnson, this team won't be able to move the ball as well as last year and fall in the first round in Boston.

5.

Baylor

Sophia Young

The Bears have to step up and rally around Young or another title isn't in their cards.

6.

Ohio St.

Jessica Davenport

An experienced team that needs to develop a long range game and not be dependant on their big girl inside.

7.

North Carolina

Ivory Latte

Returning four starters, North Carolina is a fast paced team that lacks size inside. An off shooting day will results in a few unexpected losses.

8.

Connecticut

Ann Strother

Still trying to prove they can win without Taurasi, not this year, an early exit in the tournament again.

9.

Stanford

Candice Wiggins

The Best in the West, but that only carries them so far.

10.

Texas Tech

Erin Grant

A Sophomore dominated team; lack of tournament experience only gets them as far as the Sweet 16 again.

11.

Arizona St.

Kristen Kovesdy

Dangerous from beyond the arc; if center Kristen Thompson sets up her game underneath the Sun Devils will be feeling elite.

12.

Minnesota

Jamie Broback

Very balanced offensive attack, a team that should finish in the Top 3 in a strong Big Ten.

13.

Michigan St.

Liz Shimek

A much tougher schedule this year and their record will show it. These Spartans will dance but not as long as last year.

14.

Notre Dame

Megan Duffy

A young team that lacks depth inside. The Irish aren't as strong as they have been in the past.

15.

Temple

Candice Dupree

A veteran team with nothing to lose. The Owls have a great shooting game and will push the tempo.

16.

Oklahoma

Leah Rush

Dominant team this year on the boards. Tough schedule, but respected. Possible Top 10 team.

17.

Georgia

Tasha Humphrey

Speed is the key, but can they keep it up for 40 minutes  against skilled teams? This team gets stopped in its tracks early.

18.

Texas

Tiffany Jackson

College is all about maturing. This team will need to grow up fast to compete well in the Big 12. Another loss in the round of 32.

19.

Utah

Kim Smith

Returning two All Americans. Utes have an easy schedule but it will show when March rolls around.

20.

DePaul

Khara Smith

A well-balanced attack, but will rely on second chance opportunities. Offensive boards will be the key for these Demons.

21.

New Mexico

Dionne Marsh

Definitely a sleeper team. Cinderella story written all over the place.

22.

Purdue

Erin Lawless

Big Ten schedule is tough.

23.

Vanderbilt

Carla Thomas

UConn transfer inside brings size inside that the Commodores have been lacking.

24.

Louisville

Jazz Covington

Much-improved team that will be a force to be reckoned with in the Big East.

25.

UCLA

Lisa Willis

A deep team that will be able to hang with the best.
