Big House Blues, Part II
Michigan's a wreck, Pac-10 is best and
hot players of the week

Hey everyone! My name is Joey. How you
doing? This is my second week recapping college football
and I forgot to introduce myself last time, my apologies.
I’m a die-hard fan of all sports and college football is
quickly becoming my favorite. I love watching almost as
much as playing. I think the SEC is the toughest bloody
conference in all of sports, both professional and amateur.
I’m a big fan of the underdog, so this year, go Cincinnati
Bearcats! Look for my recaps each week during the season
and hopefully some hockey analysis when the puck drops. I
am Canadian, after all. Cheers!
WEEK 2
BIG HOUSE BLUES – Michigan lost their its fourth straight game and
second in a row at The Big House. Two home losses to start
a season haven’t happened since 1959. It was the first time
since 1969 that Michigan has lost four in a row. They play
equally unimpressive Notre Dame next week. It is the
first time both schools are winless after two weeks of play.
PAC-10 POWER
– With the absolute destruction of Michigan on the
road, Oregon joins UCLA and Cal as a
potential problem for USC. Throw in a big win by
Washington over ranked Boise State and the Pac-10
has overthrown the SEC as best conference in the nation.
Auburn lost to Big East contender South Florida
and Tennessee looked ordinary in a win over
Southern Miss.
BREAK OUT THE COCKS – South Carolina had its biggest SEC victory in a
long time, beating Georgia 16-12. The monster win
gives the Gamecocks an early edge in the East. Coach Steve
Spurrier has won conference championships in his third
season with Duke and his third season with Florida.
His third season with Carolina will be great but don’t
expect a championship with LSU around.
CLOSE CALL
– Wisconsin had a rough time with 24-point underdog
UNLV, before winning 20-13. The Rebels, who won only
two games last year, get another crack at a ranked team.
They host Hawaii next week. The “We Hate the Rainbow”
Warriors had a close call at Louisiana Tech. The
Bulldogs had a slew of opportunities, but Tech failed on a
two-point conversation, in overtime, and lost by a point.
UPSETS BUT NOT REALLY
– Boise State had its 14-game win street stopped at
Washington. The Huskies look promising for the first
time in a while. South Florida beat Auburn in
overtime. The Bulls are making upsets an annual event. In
the last two seasons, South Florida has beaten West
Virginia and Louisville. The Bulls have become the #2 team
in Florida behind the Champion Gators.
HOLY SHIT!
– Everyone knew LSU was going to be good this season
but they absolutely destroyed ninth-ranked Virginia Tech,
48-7. QB Matt Flynn looked just fine in leading the Tigers
to scores in four of his first five possessions. The Tigers
have made their point. Let’s see if fellow championship
favorite USC can make the same statement. The Trojans
play Nebraska next week. The Cornhuskers looked just
fine in a win over ACC champ Wake
Forest.
BRICK KICKING - South Florida’s Delbert Alvarado almost cost the
Bulls their win over Auburn. He went 2 for 6 on
field goals and missed two chip shots. In OT, trailing by
three, South Florida went for it on fourth-and-1 on
the 18, rather than have Alvarado kick. Duke’s Joe
Surgan missed three field goals costing the Blue Devils a
chance against weak Virginia. Duke has lost a
nation-high 22 in a row.
LONG AND HARD – Virginia looks terrible but smoking hot Chris
Long doesn’t (check
out this pic). We saw some good sidelines shots of
Howie’s hard-body offspring Saturday. Listed at 6-4, 279,
Chris has lots of his dad’s size and good looks. Hawaii
QB Colt Brennan has become a serious distraction. He looked
dynamite with and without his, gay-as-hell, Warrior helmet.
Colt apparently had, at one point, dreadlocks to fit in with
his Somoan wide receivers. Anyone have pics of that?
Sounds pretty to me.
TOP 5
LSU
- Last week it was defense,
this week it’s offense. The team to beat.
USC
– Idle, so well rested and
prepared. Expect a big show in Lincoln
Oklahoma
– The Sooners annihilated a
pretty good Miami side. Take the Sooners seriously.
West Virginia – Had some defensive
problems against Marshall. The Thundering Herd always play
the Mountaineers tough. Watch “We Are Marshall,” – now on
DVD.
Florida
- Looked good early against
Troy but did give up points in a 59-31 mess.
TOP 5
EFFORTS
Akron
– The Zips trailed 12th-ranked
Ohio State 3-2 at the break.
Middle Tennessee State
– If the Blue Raider’s
defense could have made one big play, they might have beaten
Louisville.
Rhode Island
– The Div. II Rams took Army
to overtime.
Fresno State
– Huge comeback against Texas
A & M but lost in OT.
Miami (Ohio)
– Lost in OT to Minnesota.
Redhawks had plenty of chances to win.

lives in Canada and watches tons of college football each
week.
