I spent the evening Monday at one of the most popular event at the Gay Games — bodybuilding. While the medals were given out to athletes from their 20s to 70+, all are tentative contingent on the medalists passing a drug test.
Had a great time meeting Mark Ebinger of Denver, who wrote about his Gay Games journey. He was accompanied by his partner of 19 years, James Burton, and his trainer (and himself a champion bodybuilder) Chris Schrank. Ebinger won silver in the 40-49 age group, but it was incredibly close — the result had to go to a second tiebreaker.

So it’s basically a Natural show. That’s fine, but I’m sure they would have much larger participation if they followed the mainstream bodybuilding rules and refrained from testing.

Swine, if it were a show in which steroid use were condoned and there was no testing at all, the scene would be as described in this article (despite the mild homophobia, it is a very sobering article).

The testing system is imperfect though; competitors in theory could have used performance enhancing drugs for years and then stop a few months before and go undetected. Also, it appears the Gay Games may have allowed for drug use for competitors with medical waivers.
I compete only naturally though and would like to see fair play be reintroduced into sports, where it’s supposed to be about performing your best as an athlete, not how well you play as a pharmacologic guinea pig.

Hello! Great article. In my opinion, only the combination of a customized training program and the right supplements bring the success. Only one of the two will not go far.
