I spent a couple wonderful days in Nantucket this past weekend. It’s a beautiful place: So quiet, so charming, the weather’s perfect, the people are nice. You can’t go wrong. I’ve been to lots of towns in the Northeast, but I’ve never seen one that feels like old New England like Nantucket, with its cobblestone streets, strict building codes and a whopping 12 shades of color you can paint your house. Plan on renting a bike if you go; gas is $5.09 per gallon.
On the ferry back to Hyannis yesterday I figured I’d check in and see what the latest was at Outsports. Funny thing is, the site has been banned by the Steamship Authority wifi service, and the message above popped up. Gay.com had also been banned. I know China bans a lot of gay sites, but I thought it was so strange to be in Massachusetts, home of gay weddings, and not be able to access gay sites because they had been restricted by some power that be. Sites are generally banned because they are inappropriate for kids or a general audience. Really, Steamship Authority? This site is inappropriate for kids? It’s just sad that this would happen in Massachusetts in 2008. -Cyd Zeigler jr.

Wow..restricted access. I wonder if everything gay is restricted there because of children visitors. Is everything gay inappropriate in that neck of the woods?

Have you contacted any officials to find out why the site was blocked?

No, but I will be. I sent a complaint and I’ll be contacting them.
