College wrestlers on gay porn site

rassle2d.jpgGiving new meaning to Big Red, a campus website that covers the University of Nebraska has discovered that two of the university’s wrestlers have strutted their stuff on a gay porn site, including an NCAA champion. From The Scarlet Project:

The Scarlet Project has obtained photos from an anonymous source of University of Nebraska 125-pound national champion wrestler Paul Donahoe (photo left) and 133-pound wrestler Kenny Jordan (photo right) depicted on a gay pornographic website. Both video and photo, capture the duo undressing, showering and masturbating, among other graphic actions, for the website fratmen.tv. According to its licensing, fratmen.tv is based out of Los Angeles.

Fratmen.tv touts itself as the site for “college jocks and naked straight men in high-quality Quicktime and Windows Media on-line video. …”

“Our Models are all young, hot, athletic men in solo action, most of whom are exclusive to our site, so you won’t suffer from, the ‘Been There, Seen Him’ syndrome. We take great care to make sure our models are stunning and our content is of the highest quality … no grainy video with bad sound and static shots of a guy on a couch watching porn.”

The jocks went by the names “Cal” and “Nash” on Fratmen, according to a reader who sent us the tip. But the profiles appeared to have been yanked by the site.

Head coach Mark Manning released this statement to the website: “We are aware of the matter and it is being reviewed internally. We will have no further comment until all of the facts of the situation are known.”

Donahoe is 22 and a senior, and won the 2007 national championship at 125 pounds. He also was charged earlier this year for disorderly conduct at a party where his blood alcohol level tested at .122, well above the state limit of .08. Jordan is a junior and two-time Illinois state wresting champion.

The Scarlet Project shows images they say were taken from fratmen.tv, but inserted smiley faces over the best parts. In addition to whatever discipline could be meted out by the university, the pair also face possible NCAA rules violations if they received compensation for their “services.” The site is clearly making money off of them — a month’s membership goes for  $24.95. -–Jim Buzinski

Update: Days later, the wrestlers were kicked off the team.

Feb. 2009 update: Paul Donahoe unbeaten as wrestler at new school.

what the article fails to mention is that these guys appeared in solo scenes. it makes it sound like they appeared together. fratmen is one of my favorite sites and while it appeals to me — as a gay man — the models usually are solo and rarely engage in gay behavior. i would have loved for these two guys to do a due scene, but they did not. their videos were solo, and releaed a week apart.

More drama where there is none from the gay media. The guys aren’t in trouble for doing porn, they’re in trouble because they’re under contract not to do any commercial work. Without the OK of the NCAA, they can’t make a PSA telling kids to read books, either. And Fratmen is one of the hottest sites out there but “gay porn” it ain’t.

Seems to me someone has an axe to grind and they are hellbent on hurting if not destroying these young men. Why else would the dots be connected to link photo’s to these young men and the whole matter spread across the internet? Including THIS blog? This sucks!

My best wishes to Mr. Donahoe and Mr. Jordan, and I hope you are able to get past this crap, soon.

I would imagine a good percentage of the men appearing on Fratmen.tv are college athletes, and now I wonder how many of them are scrambling to get their images and videos pulled or at least hidden on the site (for paying members only). I don’t know the motivations of this particular newspaper (I’d be interesting in finding out the circumstances in which they “stumbled” across these guys images), but I do know there are quite a few campus based conservative groups that would love nothing more than to expose students at their own universities. Hopefully the NCAA itself doesn’t get involved.

Why would anyone think Fratmen isn’t a gay porn site just because the guys apparently aren’t having sex with each other? Although there are times they feature two guys side-by-side in the same video. And I’ll bet that 98 percent of their customers are men.

According to a site called QueerClick, which previews videos from Fratmen and many similar websites, there are media reports saying that “Fratmen has refused to confirm the identities of the models to University officials, citing a policy to protect their models. However, these same news reports also state that Fratmen is working with the school to maintain the athletes’ NCAA eligibility.”

As for how they “stumbled” across the images, seems likely that some gay student visits the site and sees guys he recognizes, and reported it to that Scarlet Project site.

And they’ve now been kicked off the team. Apparently they both have a history of run-ins with the law, so I guess I can see the POV of the athletic department, but it’s still kind of sad. If they’d posed for a site marketed to women — keeping in mind that these were solo scenes — I wonder if the reaction would have been the same…

Also, re a previous comment that “The guys aren’t in trouble for doing porn, they’re in trouble because they’re under contract not to do any commercial work. Without the OK of the NCAA, they can’t make a PSA telling kids to read books, either.” IAAL… but not IANA expert by any means on the NCAA rules… and I’m not sure this is correct. They can’t trade on their celebrity as college athletes (e.g., appearing in an ad as ‘champion Nebraska wrestler so-and-so,’) but they can take outside work as long as it’s not a fake job a la Rhett Bomar’s job at the car dealership run by an OU booster in Norman a couple of years ago, and they didn’t trade on their celebrity or even their names. I doubt they’re “under contract” not to do this, and I expect that if their NCAA eligibility (as opposed to their status at UNL in particular) is called into question, and they chose to fight it, they’d win.

It would be cool if this industry didn’t have to operate in secret - I’d like to know how much these young men get paid, whether or not they are being paid under the table or if they pay social security and income tax withholding like they should, or if they are being treated as independent contractors, or what. Any workplace that is not open to scrutiny will be an abusive or exploitative workplace in one way or another. What state and federal regulations ether apply or are enforceable?

this isn’t about gay or straight, it is about guys who are supposed to represent the university and the team. Also the NCAA rules state they can’t use their likeness, image name etc… or they have to get some release from the NCAA. And I am sure they would have to do the same from the University as they are university athletes. A woman wouldn’t get away with this action either- but for them it would be public way faster.
Besides imagine the crap they’d get on the mat from the opposition it would sorta suck, imo.
Just bad judgement, they threw away their career for some cash and probably some good cash, but who knows maybe all they can do now is gay porn!

    on Aug 13th, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Ok so I have a theory of how and why this was leaked…

    2 THEORIES:

    1. These guys were promised anonymity, and like a bunch of dumb college athletes they took their low cash payment (which appears big at age 20)… Being from the Midwest they were probably in awe with LA and treated like rockstars while they were in LA.

But then Fratmen.tv intentionally leaked this to some news sources… And now Fratmen.tv is netting $500K-$5M off the millions of hits and auto-renewal memberships from both gay men and millions of college aged women. The college guys end up with next to nothing all things considered, but the website makes a killing and boosts subscribers like never before.

    2. The guys were in on the deal with Fratmen.tv, and they made a lot more off these photo shoots then most people would assume. Knowing how the entertainment industry works, and how media companies don’t like to share their revenues with the “talent,” something tells me the likelihood of this having happened is maybe 2%.

    end of the theories…

As far as having run-ins with the law… I went to one of those “good suburban school districts,” and many of the athletes from my HS had run-ins with the law and while many are now fat cops… …several of them have been in or are now in prison.

During my Big-10 college years, my roommates were all athletic department student managers (former HS athletes; not good enough for college level athletics, but smart enough to get the full ride scholarships). Half the job of college athletic departments is keeping the athletes out of trouble, keeping them out of the media, covering up their misdeeds, and protecting the program’s NCAA eligibility. College athletic departments will do pretty much anything to cover up crimes that would land most people in prison, and student athlete grade inflation is usually small time compared all things considered. My roommate’s pagers would go off at 3AM (it was the 90’s), and they would have to go downtown to bail football players out of jail.

We had this “friend” who used to hang out in our house, and he was taking inside knowledge of athletic department cover-ups (usually divulged after 10 beers) and he was leaking them to his older brother who worked for one of the major local news affiliates. Needless to say, a lot of the cover-ups would come to light on tv. Our “friend’s” brother would get job promotions for being the source of the “breaking news,” and the athlete’s careers would usually come to an end.

My point with this story… Scandals like this are almost never an accident. And what’s really sad is that in the world of big media, nothing is sacred when it comes to ratings and making cash. If these wrestler guys were taken advantage of, they were largely at fault… But older adults usually know better and it’s all about the cash.

what i’m really upset of ist the fact the guys may kiss their college, sport and other mainstream career good-buy. in a “free” country like us is, i agree with the other guy that they are, in fact, left with no choices but to make a gay porn from now on

I understand these kids breaking the rules and stuff. These kids lives in exchange for a scholarship are pretty much regulated down to how much toilet paper they can use on daily basis. There prior issues gave the University cover to let them go without appearing homophobic. Anybody who thinks that homophobia did not have a little bit to do with the decision is naive. I wish in 2008 I did not still have to say that.

I hope these two kids are able to pull their lives together, finish their education and live good productive lives. People with things way worse than this have been able to do it. Look at what Vanessa Williams has been able to accomplish with her life after what happened to her.

It just irks me that these two kids no longer have a schloarship and that kid that was at Oklaoma who made those very offensive videos was able to find another school to give him a scholarship. The double standard is just absurd. Violence is okay but being perceived as homsexual is not. We have a rather whacked sense of things in this country.

These guys seem to have a history of inappropriate behavior - including arrests. I think this is an example of how HS and College athletes are elevated to a point where they think they above everything and can do anything they want. Instead they should be working their butts off and being an example, and grateful they will graduate without student loan debt.

They deserve to be exposed and expelled. Hopefully they will learn the lesson, check their egos in the trash, and finish their degrees with hard work and humility.

Paul Donahoe has stated that he will be wrestling in another program and will also look into doing more adult entertainment. I say go for it ! Cynic said: “I think this is an example of how HS and College athletes are elevated to a point where they think they above everything and can do anything they want.”

Well, to the best of my knowledge, it isn’t illegal for someone of age to appear in a porn video. I know — damn all that “thinking you’re free to do things that aren’t unlawful to begin with” — it’s going to be the death of us.

The only thing these guys have done so-called “wrong” is run afoul of someone else’s uptight personal morality. And if we spent all of our lives catering to the personal demands of the most pinched and judgmental among us, well, life would be awfully submissive and authoritarian.

I think the guys looked hot and were great to see! They made a choice, however. Unfortunately, when they become NCAA athletes and athletes at Nebraska, they had to give up certain rights in exchange. It was every bit their choice to become athletes as it was their choice to pose.

Amanda Beard, an US Olympic gold medalist in swimming posed for Playboy, however, she was out of college and not subject to university and NCAA rules.

Who cares! Paul is hot. I’m guessing that he was a closet case at the University, and some bitter guy he dated secretly and then dumped, decided to “out” him. I know two guys who had guys from their pre-out days post naked pictures of them on gay websites. What goes around comes around. If it’s true that Paul is considering a career in porn, so be it. Any more, are you a whore if you f**k 100 people while in college, 100 people you’ve met off the internet, or 100 other porn actors? The only real difference when it comes to “who we do on video” is that others can buy a subscription or a video and … join in on the fun. Thanks, Paul, you have a hot body and a hot weenie!

The question I have is whether they were contacted by this Marsh guy from fratmen.tv, from a random look at college rosters, or if they contacted him? If they both came from the same school it would seem that he was actively looking for athletes to work with. I think he sent out notices to several athletes and these two responded and accepted the proposals.
I don’t know if these guys are gay or not, for now they are at another school and probably will do well.

I notice a lot of people here speculate and have “theories” about what may or may not have happened–which I also did–some sound far fetched as if they put a lot of imagination into them and others…well it’s just speculation and we may not ever know the whole truth.

  39. #39 Kyle
    on Feb 27th, 2009 at 4:40 pm

If a gay man screws a woman in straight porn, does that make him straight? I’ve never been with a woman, but if I’d met Catherine Deneuve back in the 80’s, I’d have done everything I could to seduce her, she was so hot. And I’ve met other women like that. Doesn’t make me a pussy hound.

So keep in mind — not every guy who does gay porn is gay. To say they are is to ignore the complexity of sexuality. Some people are exclusively gay; some are exclusively straight — but the vast majority are capable of sex with a member of the same sex (or the opposite sex) under the right circumstances, no matter how they identify. That doesn’t make them gay or straight or even really bi — it just makes them human.

Why every guy who gets it up for another guy once or twice is labeled as gay for the rest of his life makes no sense to me. It’s more like a political necessity than a biological reality. So let’s get past it and stop labeling sexulaity, because all you’re doing is adding to the perception that gay sex is dangerous, if not on a physical level on a sociological one. Sex is sex, period.

You must not have known Paul Donahoe very well; you don’t even know how to spell his last name correctly. To call Paul derogatory names, like you did, is just plain wrong!
