Today we launch our new Jock Talk Vlog, a video blog that we’re bringing to you with Afterelton.com. Each week, either Jim or I will talk about some of the week’s happenings in gay sports. Sometimes we’ll have guests, sometimes we’ll be ‘on location.’ One thing we won’t do: Ask Michael Phelps to host. Kidding!
We’d love any comments, direction you’d like to see the vlog go, whatever! Check it out after the jump.

Wicked job Cyd! Loved it and can’t wait to see the next one

That was a cool VLOG, Cyd. I bet someone from SNLwill steal your Cooley gay man satire idea. I watched Shirts and Skins, which you mentioned here. Liked it although I wish it were an hour long. I honestly didn’t expect those guys to be able to PLAY, so I was impressed…

Boy, the gays really do talk with their hands a lot.
And what exactly is that painting behind you? An empty sky?

Oops… meant to add: Good Job, CZ!

Cyd why the need for such a large book on your lap? A little wishful thinking me thinks. I’m thinking one of those romance paperbacks with Fabio on the cover would have sufficed.

Good idea - I like it.
One comment, Cyd. You know I love you more than my Prada shoes, but can I suggest better lighting and some makeup? Nobody looks good on camera without a little help. I’m thinking some Trish McEvoy super-sporty foundation and maybe some gauze over that camera lens. BTW, when did you start looking so much like Lance Armstrong?

Cyd,
Those guys from Charlotte were too polite (from the South, okay) to bring up anything remotely related to sexuality. Next time, invite them out for a drink. That way, you guys could share family history, etc. in the proper setting.

Nice job. Like that it’s YouTube friendly, so it played on the iPhone nicely.
As someone who’s tangentially involved in the TV industry, I didn’t think you looked that bad on video, as Ted implies (although I don’t think he was saying you looked awful, just that you could look better). The problem is that it’s tough in a home setup to look your best. If you pump up the lighting, you run the risk of getting a washed out look on your face. If you don’t do makeup right, then, you look bizarre. In our newsroom, we have a newsroom camera that makes the women look like whores and the men look like zombies, even though they look great on the actual set. So watch out!
As far as the content goes, the nice visual illustration of the Cooley incident worked very well. The content was a little redundant for those who frequent the Outsports site. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You’re putting this up on AfterElton, and it also gets on YouTube, so you’re looking at an expanded audience that could come here. I’d maybe work in a few more Outsports mentions, even though it’s AfterElton who’s pushing it. After all, it’s YouTube hosting it, so it’s not costing AfterElton anything. Plug away!

You’re married, but refer to your significant other as your “boyfriend”???

Cyd, I love outsports and have been here since day one, and this was an entertaining, attention-grabbing way to launch the vlog. But it does undercut outsports’ oft-made claim to being about serious sports journalism. For your own sake, I hope you never intend to run for office.
