ESPN analysts debate best-looking QB

I’m sittng here at the computer with my TV tuned to ESPN. At the end of “NFL Live” there’s a mention by host Trey Wingo of a survey by some economists that indicated that good-looking quarterbacks are better paid than those who aren’t so handsome. It seems pretty ridiculous, but I found an article that quotes one of the economists involved in this study, so feel free to disagree. They used facial recognition software that analyzes facial symmetry, and combined it with a number of other factors, to come to this conclusion.

Anyway, this led Wingo to ask analysts Marcellus Wiley and Mark Schlereth, “Who is the best-looking quarterback in the NFL?” Their answers, plus a photo of a quarterback about to swallow some meat, are after the jump. (How’s that for a tease?)

Both went with Tom Brady — Schlereth called him “devastatingly handsome” while Wiley said he chose Brady because he has a supermodel girlfriend.

It should be noted that after Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers received a contract extension earlier this season, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers is the fourth-highest paid quarterback in the league, after Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and Ben Roethlisberger.

We’ve seen plenty of Peyton Manning TV commercials and Tom Brady’s modeling gigs, so here’s something from Carson Palmer. He may be well-paid but when it comes to commercial deals, judging from this he’s not in the big leagues.

Why limit it to just quarterbacks?

I think, from a heterosexual view, Falcons qb Matt Ryan is a good looking cat….

It’s not limited to to sports. Any place of public relations has studies showing that the attractive are favored over the less so. It shouldn’t be surprising; it’s human nature.

Here is a video of 2 other ESPN talking heads discussing the same issue:

Wait…did Boomer Esiason just post on Outsports from his heterosexual viewpoint? A society giving favor to the beautiful people is one aspect of human nature I think. Personally I prefer rugged looking guys or guys who haven’t had everything given to them. True fights are better employees and friends in my book.

i always liked boomer and would include him in my top five. but i ure figure the question is regarding “active” QBs. i would include
t brady, b griese, b farve (or is it favre? i don’t know french), k
warner and a player to be named at a future date. and i think this is the appropriate place and time to ask our members which of the mannings is the better looking straight queer bait……….i say ELI’s
    comin’, better hide your heart.

Jay Cutler had the confused and bewildered fratboy thing going for a while, but now he needs a good moisturizer, so not as much.

Oh, and I thought there was a Princeton (?) study named in the Atlantic about a year ago that said that tall men in general made more money. And people of both genders who went for occasional “binge drinking” also made about 7% more than those who do not. Studies that rely on anecdotal evidence always get results like this; as in, someone who gets liquored up on the weekend versus a hardcore alcoholic who needs an “eye-opener” before work, to prevent the shakes. Accurate studies happen when there is a scientific control and a tested hypothesis; for example, taking male identical twins and giving one a year of growth hormone to make him taller than his brother. And making them both quarterbacks, or binge drink, or get jobs with Fortune 500 companies…wait, what was this about again?

Interesting topic to be sure… I don’t know about the science involved in the ’survey’ conducted by those economists, but for me, it breaks down to a single question, i.e., “Would I ‘hit it’?

I’m from the Rust Belt, and although we do have Carson Palmer, and those John Morrell hot dogs look delicious, for my money there is no better QB beefcake out there than Big Ben Roethlisberger.

Sure, Big Ben is big, goofy, and all of that, but he seems really fun and is probably well grounded. He is irresistible, and in a word, BEN-ALICIOUS! I found a really great design that pretty well sums up my passion for number 7.
