Is 94-1 ‘running up the score’?

I’m all for playing hard for every minute and respecting your opponents by not treating them like children. But, when they ARE children and you’re leading a basketball game 48-0 at halftime, don’t you let up a little? I guess the coach of the Greeley, Colo., girls basketball team did let up a little; His team only outscored their opponents 46-1 in the second half to win a game, 94-1. Oooooh, isn’t he cool. But seriously, this goes too far for me. Even Bill Belichick lets up a little in the fourth quarter!

The article says: “Buxman said his team never used any kind of a pressure defense and stayed in a man-to-man, half court defense. He rotated five girls into the game every four minutes once the score became lopsided.”

If Belichick coached this team, the starting five would have played most of the game, putting on full-court pressure.

I’m pretty sure he pulled Brady once last season with about 10 minutes in the game … before putting him back in.

At least with the 15-year-old girls who lost we don’t hear “waaaaaaah, waaaaaaah, the other team beat us by too much. Waaaaaaah.”

Hah! Belichick even gets dissed as part of a “Jeopardy” question:

Greeley ran up the score to show people how good they were after they were caught stealing signals during the opening game of the season,

I guess there are more whiny Colts and Steelers fans writing for Jeopardy than there are Patriots fans. C’est la vie.

People should not pass judgement when they don’t have the facts. The coach for the team that won talked to the other coach at halftime the entire time. He was asking what he could do to help the OTHER team – he was trying to help the situation every way he could. He also took out his best players after the first quarter. The media will sensationalize a 94-1 score, but just like everything else the media covers they only tell a fraction of the story.
