Can you ever get enough of Matthew Mitcham? We thought so.
The hunky Aussie swimmer and Olympic champion is the subject of a cover story in the Advocate. He captivated Olympic diving fans and became an instant gay hero with his come-from-behind win in diving gold last summer. But what does he do for an encore? A photo spread, for starters.
“I don’t want to be just a one-minute wonder,” he says. “I do want to continue being the best, so that when [people] think back, there will be no doubt in their minds that Matthew Mitcham was the best diver of his time. I don’t want people to think that winning the gold medal in Beijing was just me being lucky, you know?”
But even better than the lengthy story is the photo spread that goes with it. The magazine doesn’t spare us from the sexy. Smoldering is a word that comes to mind. There is also a video of Mitcham discussing his gold-medal winning performance.
From a shot with him dressed up in a suit and another with him dressed down in a towel, the photos by Adam Pretty are certain to be more memorable than the words that accompany them.

It is rare that an Advocate article is long enough to give an interesting subject its due, but it appears this one is. I look forward to reading the hardcopy after scanning quickly through the first page on-line through your link Matt (Heine that is).
Vivienne you must know better than anyone else what Matthew has endured - both physically and mentally - to achieve what he has. Know that many of us take courage from both aspects of his feat. More important, he still seems to be a nice guy.

Sorry to be rude, but what are you talking about? Phelps is not a closeted homosexual, I really wouldn’t want him to be in the first place. You sound like Fred Phelps and his gathering of jackasses. Except I take it you’re gay, then again there’s much discussions that Fred Phelps and his gang of wackos are full of closeted homosexual males and females bar the youngsters.
Anyway, I caught this article by the Advocate because some of my friends texted me during class to check it out. Wow, straight great friends telling me to check something out, awesome.
The photos came out brilliantly. I wonder if he’ll hold a Mitcham fan club with special access.
