Let’s hope his career doesn’t follow Sean Avery’s path: Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Stewart Bradley has begun an internship at Elle magazine, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday. The item says Bradley wanted to learn more about the fashion industry and is one of a handful of NFL players who have interned at fashion magazines. The internship is set to last for several months.
Avery, who interned at Vogue magazine, was suspended by the NHL in December after making crude comments about an ex-girlfriend who is now dating another NHL player. Avery’s suspension was for six games but he hasn’t played since, as the Dallas Stars don’t want him back. Avery is reportedly still undergoing counseling and plans to resume skating on his own shortly.

I won’t even begin to psychoanalyze a straight guy who is into fashion and abuses his girlfriend – as Avery apparently did – but if Bradley flunks at fashion I suspect there are a few adult movie studios that would welcome his services – sexual orientation optional.

Why should this be treated any differently than a gay man being a firefighter or a cop? It all seems to be a very slippery road to stereotyping.

I don’t get the fashion thing w/these pro dudes. More money than brains?? What could they possibly contribute? OK, I am fashion impared and terribly practicle/utilitarian. I really dont like the sterotype of gay men being queenie fashionistas and uber neat nics although they are out there I guess. Most dudes I know are suit and tie when necessary at work and jeans and t-shirt anytime else.

Wouldn’t being the only straight guy at a fashion mag be a helluva way to meet hot women? Seriously. I’m amazed more straight guys don’t do it, actually.

I personally think its great. A lot of athletes, actors and singers are into learning about fashion because it eventually is an investment they would like to partake in.
Most fanshion designers dont have the bucks- these guys do- and therefore, learning about an industry that is always going to make money is rather intelligent.
