Paul Donahoe, who gained notoriety after being kicked off the University of Nebraska wrestling team after posing naked for a gay porn site, capped off a perfect regular season by winning the 125-pound title at the Eastern Wrestling League tournament this weekend.
Donahoe, who now wrestles for powerhouse Edinboro in northwestern Pennsylvania, breezed to the title with a 17-7 win the semifinals and a technical fall 24-9 in the final. He finished the conference season at 31-0 and was ranked as the top 125-pounder in the nation.
Donahoe will wrestle for the national title at the NCAA tournament in St. Louis March 19-21. In 2007, while at Nebraska, he won the 125-pound national title. By all accounts, he has fit in well at Edinboro and I am rooting for him to take another title.

He seems like such a nice kid that I’m having trouble reveling in the seediness of it all. I’m actually glad to see that he’s doing so well and that, for now, this doesn’t seem to be having any negative effect. Which, really, it shouldn’t anyway.

I told one of the editors here at OutSports 2 months ago I think it was that I’d seen the pictures of Paul and his team mate online a very long time ago. Paul has an impressive err, package?
Quick question, I’ve noticed he’s listed as 125 pounds. How tall is Paul? Isn’t that a bit underweight for a wrestler or do I really have something wrong here?

Don’t know his height (no height listed on school’s website).
He does wrestle at 125, though offseason I would guess he weighs a bit more. I have seen wrestling videos and he’s not a tall guy:

Judging from his shoe size and arm length he isn’t very tall at all. Bit of a squeeky voice at that. What he lacks in height he makes up for with a large… Well, you get the picture.

@ Pat: Thanks, I figured he couldn’t be too tall as his body would be underweight at that point. 5 foot 6 inches seems to be where he stands.

There’s laws against discrimination (explicitly re: ‘orientation’) in the City of St. Louis. If he isn’t protected by building and staff, he’s got a lawsuit, and I’ve got a dandy civil rights lawyer just a phone call away.

turned on espn this afternoon halfway through his match so i didn’t see if he got any cat calls when he was introduced. it was a defensive match that went into o.t. he made a technical error that gave his opponant a point and that ultimatley cost him the match
