There’s plenty of video emerging from Paul Donohoe’s run to the NCAA wrestling final this weekend. A reporter grabbed him in the tunnel just after his first-round match. I love this kid’s attitude.

Like I said earlier today, my facial expression while watching his match on TV was this:
Paul is a great athlete, strong, open minded, respectful, mature, etc. He took his loss in stride and didn’t whinge about it like some athletes. In the past few weeks I’ve come to respect wrestling for what it actually is. I always looked at wrestling as fake slams (see: WWE/WWF) and scripted events. Just reading around I’ve learned what the best wrestler is like or how the worst one is. It’s an interesting sport which rich history going back to ancient Rome and Greece. Thus contributing to Greco-Roman wrestling in high schools and colleges.
There’s just so much I can say about this guy and not sound like I’ve been stalking him.
I wonder if I can MySpace or Facebook him, lol. Out of all he’s said, his words spoken last/this week of two guys being together made a permanent impression in my mind. His charm, athletic ability and intelligence won my ultimate respect for him.

I wanted so badly for this kid to prevail. He’d overcome so much to get to wrestle in D1, and then bounced back after it was nearly all destroyed by the Fratmen debacle.
He is a gifted athlete and not just one of those juiced up jokers in the WWE. I hope he makes the U.S. sqaud in 2012.
