Celine Dion to buy Canadiens?

This just about leaves me speechless. Among the possible bidders for the Montreal Canadiens (as well as the Bell Centre arena and a concert promotion division) is none other than singer Celine Dion. I assume the arena and concert promotion angles are really what interests her.

Montreal fans will remain loyal to the Canadiens — even if this overrated “performer” somehow ends up as their owner, I’m sure their hearts will go on.

Who cares? Is it so awful because some perceive it emasculating to be owned by a diva (overrated or not)? Would some sleazy old straight man have made it any better?

I think most French Canadian fans would be delighted that Celine Dion buys the team over ANY American!! We love Celine. She’s got a big heart and gives a lot back to the Quebec community, with fundraising events for kids among others. She’s the best and LOVES hockey too. She’s attended many many Canadiens hockey games, and sang the national anthem numerous times before hockey games. A real classy lady. Hope she gets the team!

If Celine does manage to hold it together – she may be able to give her kid a job playing hockey. Is this the next “celebrity” cause – adopting hockey teams instead of orphans. It will take an American to get the job done right.

Have any of you ever watched Footballer Wives???? Women can run businesses just as good as men, even though they make 72 cents on the dollar in comparison. I say let Celine do it; also if she has the money to buy the franchise then who are we to say anything with our part time jobs and stressful living? We wouldn’t care if it were Bono.

Celine Dion is not a complete outsider when it comes to hockey franchises. She is very good friends with Pierre LaCroix (President of the Colorado Avalanche) and his wife Coco LaCroix. I suspect they are the reason she is considering this business opportunity. I say go for it Celine, and I take issue with the overrated statement. She has an incredible voice and has obviously managed her career well enough to even be in the position to make such a huge purchase. Franchises aren’t cheap, correct me if I’m wrong on the cost, because I’d like to buy one too if not.

Funny how rap and hip hop artists with little vocal ability are glorified and one of the best singers around is trashed by some. As for her owning a team, she has a deep love for her home province and she’d ensure the Canadiens storied tradition continues. If she’s interested, go for it.

i can see it now. the 2009-2010 habs entering the ring to the tune of “My Heart Will Go On” after a horrible centennial season being bounced out in the first round of a playoffs they shouldn’t have been in by their rivals.
