I think it adds an element of excitement and gets both fans and non-fans watching to see what happens. With that said, I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER want to see it in the playoffs. It serves its purpose in the regular season, but there's just something magical about a playoff overtime game that goes into the wee hours with countless overtimes. I actually like the shootout.
