Water polo above and below the surface

Thanks to the guys at OhLaLa for highlighting the beautiful work of German photographer Rasmus Kaessmann. His water polo series is striking and revealing. Few people ever see the battle that goes on below the surface in a water polo match; While the match he captured was staged, the grabbing, tugging, pushing and near drowning depicted are very true-to-life. They’re stunning photos; I’d love to know his technique. Also check out soccer shots he took for Nike.

A former BF was a water polo player in college (Toronto) and he was all bruised and scratched up after matches. Lots of kicking and grabbing/crunching your balls underwater/out of sight by your opponents. It’s a scrappy sport. Water polo dudes have awesome bodies

Sweet photo. Looks like it was maybe taken in a glass tank, carefully cleaned and lit so you don’t see streaks of water above the surface.

You would rarely have three or four guys all underwater at the same time like that. You’re usually not underwater unless you’re being pushed or dragged under. It’s much faster to move around on the surface.
