“TV ratings to keep falling.” Ha ha, Cyd. Of course, there are two problems with that line. First, there’s no real difference when it comes to the Carolina and New Jersey franchises — neither is a ratings draw. As I’ve explained on many occasions, New Jersey has no real fan base. Their proximity to New York does not mean larger audiences that actual New York teams draw. New Yorkers are interested mainly in the Rangers, and North Jersey is also Rangers territory (while South Jersey is Flyers territory).
The other problem is that both regular-season and playoff viewer totals on Versus are up from last year — in the case of the playoffs, average viewership is up 50 percent over last year.
