Serena Williams told the media that, despite being passed by Russia’s Dinara Safina, she’s still the best player in the world. “We all know who the real No. 1 is,” Serena Williams said at a press conference. “Quite frankly, I’m the best in the world.” I’m a big fan of the Williams sisters because I admire their dominance on the court (when they play). But this is a little classless: You just don’t steal someone’s thunder like that off the court, you take care of business on the court and get the No. 1 ranking back. She’d better win the Italian Open now!
Now, of course, Serena’s right. She is the best player in the world. Her ranking suffers because she plays so few tournaments. But still, she needs to let people like me say that and leave her talking for the court.

Sounds like Serena took her “class” lessons from Miss Calif. Their motto seems to be, “If I can’t win, I’ll make sure no one remembers who did.”

I’m a big fan of Serena and that’s her personality to speak loudly and carry a big stick, er, racket. But after I read her comments I thought the same thing as you, Cyd. And then I found out today that she was ousted by a Swiss player who has been playing poorly for a few years now. Hopefully Serena can find her rhythm by the French Open- her weakest grand slam.
Also, I hope Venus can redeem for the Williams clan at the Italian Open.

Serena is the best. People are jealous because she kicks ass instead of kissing it. Go Serena!
