Meet Sam Coy, a young model you probably haven’t seen much of. That’s because he is just now getting serious about modeling. We first met Sam a few months ago when we used this photo (right) of him on a soccer story. He kindly asked us to take it down, and we immediately wondered if it was homophobia. We were wrong. Sam is a wonderful gay-friendly guy and a lifelong soccer player (who says he’s damn good) who is now looking for representation for modeling.

He answered five questions we had about his sports career and his thoughts on how a gay guy on one of his soccer teams would be received. He shares his answers and several more photos of his beautiful physique and good looks after the jump.

When did you start playing sports?
I started playing sports when I was about 7 years old. It was actually soccer that I started on, kind of like most kids. It’s the easiest to start with and yet turns into the most complicated when it comes to finessing.

Why did you gravitate toward soccer?
I was always a fan of soccer, because my older sister played and I always looked up to her. I wanted to be cool like her. I had also started to get really good and was better than most the kids at my age. That made it easier for me to enjoy, because I always looked good running past everyone and scoring. I liked running fast and I could always practice my speed during the games.

How do you think most of your other teammates would react if one of them came out of the closet?
I don't think it would be a big deal on most of the teams I play on. Everyone is pretty relaxed and easy-going. I am pretty sure some of them are "out" but never say anything to us.
On two of my more competitive leagues I think it would be taken a little more awkwardly, and I think some of the team might shy away from hanging around them. I know a few of them are homophobic. I think the more competitive it gets the more "manly" they think they have to be.

How long have you been modeling?
I have been modeling, if you can call it that, for about 12 years. I started out when I went with my sister to an audition. I was going for support only. I had never imagined myself modeling. I didn't think guys modeled. They asked if we were both signing in. I laughed. They didn't laugh. They said that I should and that guys model too! I thought it sounded interesting and went along. I have always been interested in it, just never pictured myself doing it.

After they picked both of us to continue on with them, I was shocked. Ever since then I have pursued it further, but have never gone about it the right way. I have never had an agent or agency that I have signed with.

How do you stay in such good shape?
I am very consistent in my workout routine, which helps a lot. When I work out I am very focused and intense. You cannot work out and do it at a relaxed pace and gain the results that you want.

I stay very active in soccer, which keeps my body fat percentage very low. When I am not playing soccer, the best way to stay lean and toned is to do cardio 4-5 times a week, 30-45 minutes each time and at a rate that you can keep for the entire period. The more intensely you push through the 30-45 minutes, the better results you will have.

As far as the muscle definition is concerned, I developed that over time, but the best results I noticed came from doing one body part each day and then repeat. For example: Day one: Chest, Day 2: Back, Day 3: Legs, etc. I generally will end each day with a 3 sets of 25-30 crunches and then 15-20 pushups right in a row until done. That gives a good finish and tones the midsection really well.

If you're interested in contacting Sam about representation or working with as a model, you can email him. He presently lives in Portland, Ore., but he is itching to get to L.A., New York or Miami.
