The gays seem to be all atwitter about the pilot for the new series Glee that Fox aired after American Idol tonight. It seems many of them are relating to the themes of being picked on by jocks and singing songs from Grease. I had been excited for it as the previews looked great, but after watching the pilot I want that hour of my life back. I found the storyline boring, the characters nothing to cheer for (mostly just caricatures who showed no depth), and it was so predictable (we were calling out the dialogue and story points before they happened).
From fourth grade until I graduated, I was teased mercilessly about being gay. I did the drama and chorus thing. I also ran faster than just about anybody else in my school. My high school life encompassed the entire show, so I should have related to a lot of the show. But I didn’t. Isn’t the “chorus is for geeks” and “jocks are assholes” storylines overdone yet? What did you think? How did you relate to it and did you like it?

I tried not to get too deep with it. I just thought it was fun. After one episode it’s hard to judge how “deep” the characters will get. Watch the first episode of “Friends” and tell me how deep those characters were – and the show went for nearly a decade. I’m not saying that “Glee” is anything like “Friends” – but one episode is not enough for me to decide. Since I’m painfully shallow, the teacher and the football player/singer are hot, so I will watch at least one more!

Loved it! Yes, the characters and plot are nothing new, but so what? Like Betty Suarez, the characters are funny and nice, earnest and down-to-earth, and not the kind of people who usually lead shows. It’s not about being cool or trendy or anything like that. In fact, the plethora of retro songs (Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’) and show tunes (Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat from Guys and Dolls), commingled with unlikely contemporary songs (glee club kids singing Amy Winehouse’s Rehab or Kanye West’s Golddigger), is fun for audiences of all ages. That’s all it is. Good, clean fun.

It’s just too hard to judge a show based on the pilot. You’re being introduced to these people for the first time so there is a whole lot of exposition to get out of the way. It was a good, not great, hour and given time I think Glee could find the right note. (Sorry for the bad pun)

It was camp fun; I think it was supposed to be predictable and cliche while bombastic to excess. I got several guffaws out of how cheezy it often was, but I also had a great time watching it.

(we were calling out the dialogue and story points before they happened). Wow. Remind me not to sit next to you at the movies.
I was a little disappointed in the execution but like everyone has said, it’s the pilot. It’s difficult to get an in depth charater study of 13 characters in 48 minutes. I’ll tune in for a few more in the fall.

It was no “My So Called Life” … Oh Jordan Catalano how I miss thee “I just like how he’s always leaning. Against stuff. He leans great. “

The teacher made me horny, and I was frustrated that he was straight. In that sense, a lot of bad memories.
Otherwise, no identification with the characters or the plot at all. Just found the whole thing cute and safe.

It was like they took the style and format of the show from “Earl,” and than mixed it up with “High School Musical.” And it was fun! I am planning to watch it in the fall.

I thought it was fun & harmless, and quite honestly I’m one of those people who nitpick “hyped” shows to death. I can’t say that I related to the mateiral (are there really show choirs like that in high school?) and since it was from Ryan Murphy I expected it to be somewhat over the top, snarky, and quite frankly a little shallow (and I mean that in a good way)…

I liked it. The end was just innervating <3

Isn’t it funny that the jock is made to be the hero again. Not the kids who were picked on but the jock.
What a bunch of crap.

I thought Rachel Berry has a great voice – her character reminds of Reese Witherspoon in “Election”. It is hard to imagine the actress is playing a sophomore however.

It wasn’t as good as I was hoping it would be, but it started to draw me in more in the second half — enough to want to see if it gets better in the fall.
