Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Red Wings for their first Finals win this year. BTW, is anyone else annoyed by the now-stale proclamation that “now we have a series”?
The world’s No. 1 player self-proclaimed world’s best player lost in the quarterfinals of the French Open today.
Obama picks the L.A. Lakers to win the NBA Championship. Anyone else think it’s odd that he makes public sports picks?
Dallas Cowboys continue their jettisoning of talent, releasing LB/DE Greg Ellis (above), who was the 2007 Comeback Player of the Year. Why do I see another 9-7 season for this team?
Only Serena Williams could come into the French Open after a 4 match losing streak, do absolutely nothing on clay all season, and give the second best clay courter this season as tough a match as she did. Yeah she lost but she’s still the best in my book. Great that thing called opinion isn’t it?
Why? Because he’s the leader of the nation and has no stake in the contests, so it’s an easy one to not pick sides in. He’s not a local plumber or a sports broadcaster: He’s supposed to be uniting the country, not picking sides. It just seems odd to me.
No, he’s not a local plumber or sports broadcaster. As I said, he’s a FAN. Sports fans talk sports, and part of that is making predictions. I can’t help but sense a bit of an agenda. I mean, “He’s supposed to be uniting the country, not picking sides” — seriously?
Joe, I have no agenda in posting that. It’s always struck me as odd when the President cheers for a team. It always struck me as odd when Giuliani would cheer for the Yankees over the Mets. It just feels funny to me, that’s all.
It only seems odd because we are so used to politicians sitting on the fence when it comes to this stuff and pandering to people. I love that he’s willing to make his predictions and let us know his rooting interests.

Why would anyone find it odd that a sports fan gives his opinions? That’s what sports fans do — even those who are President of the United States.

Obama is a huge sports fan, especially basketball, so I would expect him to give his opinions.

Well we could always ask Joe the Plumber…wait…is he a plumber? Sorry Cyd, I couldn’t resist!

The whole idea of President Obama breaking away from the norm, is in line with picking his favorite team – and making his choice public.
Is this not what we expect him to do?
