Total Eclipse of the (Homoerotic) Heart

All I remember from watching the music video for Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart many years ago was mood lighting. But the new “literal” version of the video, in which they song’s lyrics describe what you’re seeing in the video, put front-and-center tons of homoerotic sports. Wet swimmers, a locker room, hot fencers, gymnasts: I guess I just wasn’t thinking about those things in 1983, but they’re great to see again now 25 years later.

Video after the jump.

wow, how did I miss that video growing up? I did love the song, but don’t remember the vid.

Question though – what makes something homoerotic? The video is definitely erotic, and definitely shows young guys as sex objects – but is there any implication of sexual tension BETWEEN the men being depicted?

I know, it’s picky, but just wondering what people think about it.

I tend to agree with Mike. The story of the video is something about the older woman / teacher fantasizing about young men in a prep school. There’s nothing really “homo” about the eroticism.

Easily the best of the literal videos that’s out there right now though.
