Weekend hot jock: Luke Swan

Former Wisconsin Badger wide receiver Luke Swan was a contestant on Michael Irvin’s show 4th & Long, competing for a training-camp spot with the Dallas Cowboys. Swan was booted from the show this week because of a groin injury (his football career has been plagued by injuries). Swan was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for a brief period in 2008 but was put on waivers without making the final cut. The 6-foot-1 24-year-old had 60 catches for 1,046 yards and 7 TDs in his final two years at Wisconsin. His senior season was cut short due to an injury, but Swan says on his Web site that he was fine with having his football career cut short because it’s “God’s sovereign will.”

He’s got a gorgeous, strong body, so he likely has the physical prowess to make a roster in the NFL. But with his injuries and a shortage of college numbers, he will likely be following his heart to a “ministry in Athletes in Action” and not onto the football field Sunday mornings. And if the ministry doesn’t work out, we can only hope he’ll follow the lead of Paul Donahoe. For now, you can find him on Facebook.

More photos and video after the jump.

Kids definitely got a great bod and big guns. Unfortunate series of injuries. What’s more unfortunate is he’s going to be hobbled in life by his religious extremism. He’d get along fine w/my sister and brother.

Kev, If you’re right, Luke will have wasted 72.5 years (or however many he’s got on this planet). If Luke’s right… you will have wasted an eternity… literally. Who’s risking more?

My point was based on personal experience that many of the people I know and supervise who are evangelical/born again have a huge difficulty functioning in our society. Their ridged beliefs hobble them. If they get comfort from their faith that’s great. I don’t need my life simplified like that. As a scientist I believe in facts and testing hypothesis and just can’t believe in blind faith. Particularly when religion, Christianity and the bible have been used as political tools to control people for the purpose of building wealth and power.
If a person has faith or is spiritual that’s great. If a person of the LGBT community provides financial support or political support to their faith organizations who choose to interpret the bible as it suits them and works against the LGBT community they are working against their own better interests.
