The Winter Classic was created to help boost the NHL's profile south of the border and create something unique. After a picture perfect showing in the 2003 "Heritage Classic" between the Edmonton Oilers and Montréal Canadiens (the first outdoor game) the league realized it was onto something. Sure enough, the Winter Classic has turned into a success. With that said, it would be massive overkill to have two games on the same day. It wouldn't serve its purpose and it would steal the "magic" that helps make this game so special. 1.
