Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo often appears wearing short shorts and bathing suits. While some call it a “fashion crime,” others are obviously flocking to it as stores report a recent spike in sales of short shorts. According to Reuters:
British department stores group Debenhams (DEB.L) said on Thursday sales of skimpy shorts leapt over 117 percent in the last week, after Ronaldo was photographed sporting his skin-tight style on holiday in the United States.
One source tells Reuters he believes the shorter shorts are about to become a “worldwide phenomenon.” If it’s a good cut and a nice style, the shorter shorts can look just fantastic on a guy; I’d sure welcome the shift!

Well only if your in a pool or at the beach. You can’t walk around in the street with those shorts. Not even if your Cristiano Ronaldo.

People did walk around in those in the 80′s, so I wouldn’t be surprised… in Europe at least. Tent size “shorts” have been in fashion long enough.
Maybe next summer – styles change quickly, and people get used to new things quite fast. I just prey nobody starts to produce ‘BrĂ¼no’ style shorts for general use by the public

Those are mighty short from Mr. Ronaldo, but very lovely. If you’ve got the legs for them, I say rock em. Now most of my shorts are usually about 4″ above my knee because I don’t want my shorts basically coming down to my knee. I want to wear SHORTS dammit and I don’t play all this damn tennis and swim laps in the pool and go running to cover them up. So yes I want to show my damn legs.
The same thing goes for my swimming trunks. Most of my swimming trunks are even higher than my shorts. I hate the board shorts that most guys here in the states wear to the beach. Love going to Europe and seeing men in short trunks (especially Brazil wear the speedo is the common swim attire). If you are fashion follower, its not something that really went out. Ralph Lauren always made swim trunks and shorts that are shorter than most guys wear (not as short as Ronaldo’s though), but still enough that I hear people tell me I have short shorts on. But I love the look.

I hate the feel of “boardie shorts” and I don’t like the way they flop around my legs when I’m running.
The anti-shorts and anti-speedo movement was started by the same people behind the anti-gay movement and it’s about time to fight back.
The same goes for bringing back speedos for swimming. I’m trying to organize a “Speedofest” in which 1000′s of guys go to a pool or waterpark in speedos instead of boardies and it would be the moral equivalent of the Stonewall Inn riot.
