The name Richard Jefferson has been tossed around for years as a possible gay man in pro sports. MediaTakeOut breathed life in the rumors in 2006 when they said a black New Jersey Nets player was in a relationship with a man (Jefferson was with the Nets at the time). So when I read that Jefferson canceled his wedding planned for last weekend with just a couple days to spare, and that he didn’t tell some of the guests invited to the wedding, it all smacked of strangeness and desperation. I’m certainly not the only one talking about it.
Do you think his odd behavior surrounding his wedding sends a mixed message?

Another tabloid gossipy rumor about an athlete’s sexual orientation??
Come on!!
on Jul 15th, 2009 at 10:05 PM
hey if you don’t like it you can always go to ESPN.
and yeah, he’s gay, and an asshole! to string her along so far like that? that’s cold….

he is totally gay, better to call it off now then shock her later.

The same thing happened to me, I kind of suspected it and he was gay. Does not matter how beautiful the woman is. The man is not attractive to the opposite sex. Oh Yeah my ex was gay. I am glad he broke-up with me before the relationship went any further…

Backing out of a wedding at the last minute does not mean that someone is GAY. Does society call every woman that backs out of a wedding “LESBIAN”. Come on, the man just wake up and decided that this was not what he wanted just yet. But if he is gay, then he needs to find someplace or someone to talk to.

Richard Jefferson likes men. He used this girl because she’s stupid to cover his tracks. If you like getting ding-a-ling in your butt and mouth just do you. White people already hate on you because your black, so why not just add Fa_gy to your resume.
Richard Jefferson you give gayface and that’s how i knew.

Look at poor Mariah Carey, she got her heart broken by two gay men, derek jeter and luis miguiel. both over 35 and never been married, and now they all about women.
it’s sad that SO many people are GAY or BI. and now you can’t tell, and some innocent woman marries these clowns, and then he cheats on her with some big dick man and does anal and brings STD’s home. I hate them all

Got this from a friend:
While coming into work this morning, I heard an interview of
Richard Jefferson with Dan Patrick.
In response to Dan Patrick’s question about why a NY paper would question his sexual orientation in light of his breaking off his marriage, RJ stated it was because “the worst thing you can do to an athlete is question him at that level.” He went on to say that it just isn’t true.
He is a deeply religious man and was brought up in a religious home.

“He is a deeply religious man and was brought up in a religious home.”
Well, that settles it then. He can’t possibly be gay. BTW, maybe I haven’t been paying close enuf attention but when did straight people take over the comment sections on Outsports?
on Jul 16th, 2009 at 3:21 PM
Yeah, & what’s w/ all the gay hatin on this gay site?
on Jul 16th, 2009 at 4:10 PM
Jefferson was also on Howard Stern today…haven’t heard it yet but I’ll listen to the replay. I guess he’s doing major PR control.

This story was linked from various sites.

“He is a deeply religious man and was brought up in a religious home” = He’ll be on the down low his entire life.
He reportedly gave his X a 6 figure settlement. Wonder if it had a keep your damn mouth shut clause?
on Jul 16th, 2009 at 11:54 PM
In other words, gay.
on Jul 17th, 2009 at 1:34 AM
So there aren’t any religious people who are gay? I don’t really care because I have my own man to worry about, but seems silly. And when do we allow str8 assholes to come on here and say they hate gay people?
on Jul 17th, 2009 at 6:32 AM
So is Tony Romo gay? Because I always suspected that his relationship with Jessica was a front.
on Jul 17th, 2009 at 7:17 AM
well I was deeply religious and was gay as a goose wearing green on Thursday. Being religious and/or being raised in a religious home does not keep one from being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or even an asshat. I have no idea if Mr. Jefferson is gay. If he is I hope that he is able to accept himself and live his life with integrity. If not I hope that he can find a woman that he can have a loving long term relationship with.

I love how all these “STRAIGHT” people are reading and posting Hate on OUTSPORTS.
Hmmm… If I were straight would I EVER log in, read and post angry rantings on a GAY SPORTS WEBSITE? mmmm…. NOOOOO!
ALL YOU “STRAIGHT” posters are POSERS. You are GAY GAY GAY…GAY!
You need to realize that you are fooling NO ONE.
Kick the doors off your CLOSET and embrace your Gayness!

Mmm Mmm Mmm..thats why I say give me the money but not the fame. I surely inquire about the sexuality of athletes and celebrities (‘specially the ones I find hot) but my goodness…the man’s job is to shoot a ball into a damn hoop and he gotta deal with all this. I feel sorry for him.

I know for a fact that Richard Jefferson is gay. And he is not the only one from that Arizona team that made it to the final four!
on Jul 17th, 2009 at 11:06 PM
Reading the articles on a google news search, he seems like a guy with few strong roots. I didn’t see any mention of his saying that being “deeply religious” had anything to do with the breakup. Though I could understand if having a simplistic notion of what commitment is about distorted his expectations and/or hers. Regardless of his sexual orientation, spending so much money on an event that is supposed to be simply about love between two people is reason enough for the relationship to have failed. Maybe they have both learned something along that line. If it’s really love then keep it simple: you and your love.

I wish he had some support to help him understand … it’s okay to be gay.
on Jul 18th, 2009 at 5:20 PM
I wish Richard was gay… he is HOT! But if he really was gay, he would have gone through with the wedding and taken her on picture and video packed honeymoon to London with lots of proof that he was straight… gently nibbling on her ear in the street, sucking face in the clubs, dancing til dawn with her oh his arm. But he did not. That said… if Richard is gay, he can come to my place and chill until the coast clears or at least quiets down and he finds another beard!

I give him credit though at least he didn.t play the game like many in his sport, other sports, entertainment who marries for show. There is so so many bi,gay celebrities living they lives for the public, not for they own. There is many many more richard jeffersons in all sports playing my fiancee, my wife, my girl game.
on Aug 2nd, 2009 at 8:58 PM

LOL, I have to say the on-line dating or electronic dating has come a long way from the days of basic chat rooms. Much more and far more people are turning to on the internet dating sites to screen possible dates.
