VH1’s Brooke Knows Best follows the daughter of Hulk Hogan. And if you’ve watched it, you know that every episode features a gay guy in her roommate, Glenn Packard (right, with Brooke). The show dips in and out of sexual orientation from time to time; In one episode, Glenn went on a “straight” date while Brooke went on a “lesbian” date.
The latest Brooke Knows Best episode has less of Glenn than usual but tackles homophobia at the same time. It features the Hulkster and his friend Knobbs, most-known as one half of the wrestling team The Nasty Boys. The episode features Knobbs sleeping in Glenn’s bed sans Glenn (and having trouble doing it with all the pictures of naked men on the walls) and jumping into bed with the Hulkster because that’s less gay. Hulk and Knobbs are also mistaken on the beach for a gay couple (and it was a hot, well-built gay couple doing the mistaking). I thought it was a fun way to play off the homophobia of this big, “masculine” pro wrestler. Plus, it’s cool to see the Hulkster is pretty gay-friendly, chastising Knobbs for being a dork about it and complimenting the gay guys on their physique, rolling with the punches.

If only we all didn’t know that the whole thing, putting the guy into the gay guys bedroom, the jumping into hulk’s bed, the ‘mistaken’ for a gay couple on the beach wasn’t all staged specifically for the show.
Sorry, but this is like thinking ‘gonzo’ porn (you know where the pick ’strangers’ off the street to have them act in porn scenes) is real.

btw – I don’t mean to imply that the Hulk, or his buddy, is in any way anti-gay. I just don’t think we can tell one way or the other from their ‘antics’ on a ‘reality’ show.
I mean this is the same network that gave the world The Hills and The City both well known to be highly scripted ‘unscripted’ TV.

Oh, it was definitely staged. But that doesn’t mean it’s not positive. The gay portrayals on the show are pretty strong. Just because it was staged doesn’t mean it’s not good.

I think you should write about the gay portrayals on “Ugly Betty” too. That show’s more real than this Hogan thing, and just as related to sports.

I second that. One of the storylines on “Ugly Betty” is about her obviously gay 14-year-old nephew who is surrounded by a loving, supportive family who accept him unconditionally, despite what many IMdb deniers say (e.g. “there are many straight boys who love Broadway musicals”)

Positive message and kudos on big, giant Hulkster not being homophobic or anything like that, but as everyone else here has stated, that was staged as all get out. Lmfao! I mean, come on! If you noticed, one of the gay males they ran into, even had a microphone thingy in his back pants pocket. It’s like don’t treat viewers like morons and call this a reality show when it’s clearly all staged. Positive message though
