OK. So no more accepting of apologies. Is this if someone says "faggot" to me, or only if someone says it to someone else? What if someone says it jokingly to me -- is that a taking-back-the-word usage, is it insulting, or am I going to get dinged for taking it as insulting by allowing someone to either apologize for it or to acknowledge that they were saying it jokeingly, thereby acknowledging the derogatory subtext implied in the word? But by my saying that it's implied, I'm being a homophobe by giving the word that power. Maybe...

So confusing in these transitional times. Think I'll wait until my boyfriend gets back from his trip to see what he thinks. Unless someone has a flowchart?

Jeff McGregor also has an interesting post over at ESPN.com. the interview with Jim Donovan, the university's athletic director regarding Coach McMackin's 'punishment' is a highlight.

The money quote for me was

"Now I don't doubt for a moment that Mr. McMackin is a very nice man who meant no hurt to anyone. But Mr. McMackin is also the perfect product of his lifetime environment, a genial boob in the moral and cultural vacuum of football who can't imagine a world in which the word "f*****" used as an adjective would ever trouble anyone."
