E. Lynn Harris told closeted sports stories

Jim and I were both out of town when author E. Lynn Harris passed away a couple weeks ago, so I wanted to circle back and make sure we recognized him here. He was on tour for his new book, “Basketball Jones”, when he collapsed of a heart attack in Beverly Hills at age 54. He had become a best-selling author for unveiling the “down-low” culture that many black men are a part of. His latest book, as you might have guessed, is about an NBA star’s sexuality, among other things. His work was truly ahead of its time and his writing will be missed by many.

Yeah I was sad when I heard about this a couple weeks ago. I just read his book Just Too Good to Be True not too long ago, I borrowed it from my boyfriend, who’s a big fan of his work…I loved the book, I’ll have to pick up Basketball Jones and see if it’s equally as good.

Man, I just found out about Mr. Harris. This is a shock to me because he, and Mr. Boykin are a blessing to me. I have gotten through a lot of pain just by readin some of the stories. I have always had the vision of playing one of the characters in film, but now that he is gone, I doubt that highly will happen. I didn’t know him personally, but his writings made me feel close to him. Condolences to the entire family, they have lost one “TRUE” man of essence, LOVE!!!

I’m still very upset by E. Lynn’s sudden passing. His stories really got the conversation going about the down low and homosexuality in general among black men. He will be so so missed.
