Unassisted triple play ends game

For only the second time in Major League Baseball history, a game ended on an unassisted triple play. It was turned by Eric Brunlett of the Philadelphia Phillies in a 9-7 win Sunday against the New York Mets. The only other one occurred in 1927. Video:

My partner and I were watching the end of this game live. Adding to the effect of the play was the fact that the Mets were in the midst of probably their best comeback of the year.

The Phillies had gone up 6-0 in the top of the first inning. The Mets slowly worked their way back into the game and had gotten the score to 9-7. The Mets had already scored a run in the ninth inning and had the tieing run on first with no outs when the triple play occurred.

As the play happened, we both held our hands up in shock and disbelief, then looked at each other, laughed and said, “Only the Mets!!”. LOL.
