How boring was Boise State’s 19-8 sloppy win over Oregon in the college football opener? The lasting impression will be Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount punching Boise State’s Byron Hout after the game. It was a shocking display of a player who seemed to have gone nuts and will lead to at least his suspension if not dismissal. (Watch the video below).
Before the game, Blount bragged about the Ducks were going to give Boise State an “ass whipping.” He then rushed for -5 yards on eight carries and was tackled for a safety. After the game, with the players from both teams milling about, Hout tapped Blount on the shoulder and said something. As Bronco head coach Chris Peterson started yelling at Hout (for bad sportsmanship, I assume), Blount turned back and threw a hard right that nailed Hout flush on jaw, sending him to the Broncos’ blue turf. Hout did not have his helmet on.
We then saw Blount throw a punch at a teammate trying to calm him down, wrestle with an Oregon assistant, security and police officers and try to get at some fans who were taunting him. All in all, an ugly display by a player who was kicked out of an Oregon practice this summer for being disruptive. He apologized after but the damage was already done. Blount may have punched an opponent, but it was Oregon football that wound up with a black eye.
Update: The day after, Oregon suspended Blount for the season, but will remain on scholarship. Hout will not be suspended for taunting Blount, but his coach said he would give him a good talking to.

Okay, if I could get that cute blond Oregon trainer who road his back to restrain him – almost in to the locker room – to hug me like that maybe it’d be worth it.

That is no blond “trainer” — that is Oregon asst. and former Nebraska QB Scott Frost.

Good thing the two teams were forced to shake hands before the game! A lot of good that did.
Physical attack is never the appropriate response to a non-physical confrontation. Still, I’d love to know what the antagonistic Boise State player said to Blount. Maybe next time he’ll keep his mouth shut.

Coach Peterson is to blame. What a Hout! He had no chance to defend himself.

Scott F*cking Frost….as a Michigan Man I knew there had to be something fishy about Oregon’s program. I’m surprised he didn’t go on television and cry his eyes out for Blount like he did for Coach Osburne back in ’97 to whine their way into a share of the national championship.
Meanwhile, I saw the punch live and it was CRAZY! But I didn’t think the game was that boring because, well, it’s college football.

I didn’t see the whole game, but the highlights looked great! Safety, 2-pt. conversion run in by the kicker, that blue field! Sure, it wasn’t the 38-35 game they were expecting, but I wish I’d seen more of the game.

Both of the players were wrong, definitely no excuse for Blount to sock Hout, but at the same time Hout shouldn’t have tapped him on the shoulder to rub the loss in his face…there’s always going to be some trash talk, that’s just apart of sports, but Hout crossed the line tapping him on the shoulder he should have just kept it verbal…unfortunately Blount looked like a dumb jock going through roid rage which he may be who knows his outburst certainly didn’t do anything to dispell that theory lol Hout should be disciplined too, nothing as severe as Blount’s punishment, but something like maybe having to sit out the first half of the next game cuz he was definitely in the wrong too not just Blount

Damn…he got knocked the f*ck OUT!!! NORMALLY, I’m not one to resort to anyone using physical violence to resolve a conflict. Key word in that is normally because no one is above an ass whoopin. I would like to know what Hout said to Blount cuz my knee jerk reaction is to say that dude should’ve kept his mouth shut. Ultimately, Blount has ruined his college football career and really harmed his chances of being picked by an NFL team. He sounds like a hot head what with the reports of his being disruptive anyway. Both are at fault here. Its just that Hout pulled out a knife and Blount pulled out a gun. I bet he’ll keep his mouth shut from now on though.

“I wish I’d seen more of the game.”
Better you than me! It was a dog and the highlights you saw were it. Oregon was so explosive they only took until the middle of the third quarter to get their first first down. And you also missed Boise State having first and goal at the 1, then winding up 4th and goal from the 18 after a fumble and a sack, then missing a field goal.

Hout had no business touching Blount. He put his hands on his helmet and then tapped him on the shoulder. If he hadn’t provoked Blount, nothing would have transpired b/c Blount was walking away. Hout definitely should get suspended for his actions.
However, Blount deserved the season suspension because he had been priorly suspended for academics and got in trouble during preseason practice, which led to disciplinary actions. Also, he punched his own teammate! That alone is worthy of PROGRAM suspension! Also, going after the fan in the stands and pushing the security guard further added to the situation.
I still think he should get a shot in the NFL, because if they let Vick play, then they should forgive ALL sins…

Good for uber-hottie Scott Frost for stoping the thug from hurting others. Scott Frost was once in a incident with another crazy college RB, remember Lawrnce Phillips. Phillips went after Scoot Frost when he caught him in bed with his ex-girlfriend in Frost’s apartment. Frost allegedly hid in the closett while Phillips beat up his girlfriend. After seeing Scotty manhandled Blount I think Frost could have also manhandled Lawrence Phillips. Might I also comment that the Bryon Hout is also very hawt! Vey cute Boise St team!

To me the worst offense was the ambush.
That was cowardly, waiting for the guy to turn around in order to blindside him.
