Being a Sydneysider, I applaud AXN for having the article and issue on Sport. However, it would be remiss not to mention the excellent job that the Sydney Star Observer do in reporting sport as well. About 2 years ago, the editor made a brave decision to have a weekly sports page. This has now grown to almost 2 pages every week. In addition, there have been a number of front pages dedicated to major sporting achievements of Sydneysiders (like, for example, when the Sydney Convicts won their second Bingham Cup).

This is a major achievement for a community based newspaper liaising with the premier community based sporting organisation in Sydney (Team Sydney) and we should congratulate both bodies on their ability to keep the sports section alive and well. It is good to see that what initially started off as a bit of an experiment is slowly but surely starting to grow to other Gay and Lesbian media in Australia. The Southern Star in Melbourne is now also publishing a weekly sports page down there with the assistance of QSAM.

I have to wonder how many other community newspapers around the world provide so much coverage for sport.
