LPGA losing major event sponsor

The world’s economic recession is hitting all sports, but few may be hit harder than women’s golf. The LPGA has lost seven tournaments to sponsors pulling out since 2007. The latest is Anheuser-Busch dropping the popular Michelob Ultra Open, which fans and players have voted as their favorite tour event over the last two years. According to the Associated Press:

In 2007, the LPGA had 34 events on its schedule. It had just 27 this year, lost all three of its events in Hawaii, longtime sponsor Corning after 31 years and several others.

does the LPGA need the PGA’s money to survive, just like the WNBA needs the NBA’s money, and women’s college sports needs taxpayer money? i say we leave all women’s sports to the whims of the markets, I mean, how good of role models are the women in these leagues if they still need men to support them?
