The herd got culled this weekend at the top of the college football standings. No. 4 Mississippi, No. 5 Penn State, No. 6 Cal and No. 9 Miami all lost. This means new life for one-loss teams like Virginia Tech and USC, but the reality is that Texas and either LSU, Florida or Alabama from the SEC would be shoo-ins to the BCS title game should they go undefeated.
Florida was given a scare when QB Tim Tebow was nailed by a Kentucky pass rusher. Tebow is in the hospital suffering the effects of a concussion. The season suddenly got very interesting this weekend.

I don’t remember ever seeing this kind of shake-up in the top 25. I’m glad it’s happening: Hopefully it will open the eyes and minds of voters. The bottom line: Get rid of the preseason polls!!
