It is quite scary that there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS and the only way we can fight it is by prevention. How long would it take our scientists to develop a cure or vaccine for this disease?

HIV is a nasty disease. Once you get it, there is no cure for it. Safe sex and abstinence is the only way to avoid getting it.

Perhaps the best thing that one can do to promote HIV_AIDS awareness – regardless of ones status – is to support health care reform that does not stigmatize the HIV-positive by making them an enhanced “insurance” risk.

The more widely distributed the cost of caring for the ill, the less likely stigma will be associated with an individual cause of illness.

Ultimately this not only helps the ill but helps the healthy as well. And it is that enlightened self-interest we need to promote.
