ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue is finally out, and there’s plenty of what they promised: Skin. Shockingly, the magazine seems to feature as many men as women. Yes, shocking. What’s unfortunate is that some of our advertisers tell us they will pull their advertising if we feature the same exact photos that ESPN is allowed to use (naked athletes covered by well-placed balls, hands, sticks, etc…). Still, I’ve cropped a couple here and included a link for the full pictures (both after the jump.

BTW – why did some of your advertisers threaten to pull out if you guys published the full pictures? Was it a copyright thing or was it more due to the content?

Not copyright, content. Gay sites are often held to different standards from the same advertisers who place ads on the SI swimsuit pages.

That’s unbelievable!
So it’s ok for girls to run out to the store and buy the magazines. It’s ok for websites catered to women to show these pictures. It’s ok for websites catered to men to show pictures of the semi nude women.
But it’s not ok for a gay sports website to show these pics (none of which are tasteless… they were well taken photographs)???
This is 2009 yet why do I get the feeling we’re still stuck in the 70’s (not that I’d know what that was like since I was born in ‘83 but you get my point!)

They dont exactly allow for full female nudity either on some of these sites, so its not that big a deal. I really had no idea that Chara of the Bruins was that ripped.
