ESPN college football analyst and NFL Hall of Famer Bob Griese has been suspended one week by the network after a remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
During Saturday’s Ohio State-Minnesota game, ESPN ran a NASCAR graphic and co-analyst Chris Spielman wondered where Montoya was, since his name was not in the Top 5 in points standings, causing Griese to say:
He’s was “out having a taco.”
I had the game on, heard the comment and immediately knew that Griese was in trouble. He apologized twice during the broadcast and ESPN issued a release disapproving of his comment. Montoya is from Colombia, while tacos are Mexican, but to Griese they all must look and eat alike.
It was a dumb and stereotypical thing for him to utter and a week off sounds right. Broadcasters need to learn that ANY attempted joke with an ethnic bent is just asking for trouble and should resist the urge.
Video of Griese comment and apology:

on Oct 27th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
CNN just did a series called “Latino in America” where they asked Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Central Americans and all said that to the white Americans all Hispanics are seen as Mexican. Griese, having been made famous by a city (Miami) that was developed by Cubans and Cuban-Americans should have been more aware of the insensitive nature of his comment.
In my opinion he should have been fired. If the comment were made about an African-American athlete and a food stereotype like watermelon or fried chicken, he would not have a job. Shame on him and all the white Americans that don’t have the decency to learn anything about ethnic differences and are still very racist in a country that is built on cultural diversity and immigration.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Give me a break! Everybody loves tacos.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I honestly can’t believe how people react to such insignificant statements, grown men are children these days. Who cares if he said he was eating a taco? What if he was? Seriously, grow up and act like an adult. Give Griese a break.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
ITs about time people realized that they need to grow thicker skin. If it was a black or hispanic saying the same thing nothing would have been done. THis country has a double standard when it comes to tolerance. Whites get nailed for anything they say that “might” offend somebody, but a black can call a white a honkey or cracker and nothing is said. Personally I don’t care if I’m called a honkey, cracker etc - it is just words. Grow up people.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
“White men can not jump” has no racial context I suppose? He is WASP, no stero typing here. It seems that anything a “minority” says is OK has no racial context or does not demonstrate any insensitivity especially if the F word is used as an adjative.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Bob Griese suspended because he said somebody was eating a taco…..sounds like grounds for divorce to me.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
I love tacos!!! who cares if he said that? so if someone says that jeff gordon is eating a hot dog or a burger they better get suspended too!!!!!!!!!!! Get over yourself and stop acting like a whiny ass baby!!!!!!!!!!! stupid ass ESPN!!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
…give me a break…this country needs an enema…this political correctness has got to stop. It’s gotten WAY out of control. The media thinks they’re the policing authority for the country…time to take back the country and make it great once again. Friggin whiners anyway…go back to your la-la land of tele-tubbies and marshmallow skies. You don’t like it here? Backstroke it to where ever it is you came from! Bob is one of the good guys and always has been.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
watch out white america they are gunning for us….
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Griese is a dipshit, that said his apology should have been enough. as a hispanic i have heard far worse, this taco comment sounds like a bad joke and not a real slur, let’s forgive him and move on…
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
If it was for instance, it was some driver from Europe and he said “out getting some bagels and lox” there may have been a few chuckles and it would have been over. Come on, this is crazy, NOT newsworthy, and a constant double standard! I agree with Hockey, people need to get a thicker skin! Enjoy your week off Bob and know that most people didn’t even blink at your statement.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Wow…stark contrast to the responses to Larry Johnson using gay slurs on twitter.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
so white is the new black, ay hal? get your gun and turn up brother limbaugh, they’ll be coming to turn you into a slave any minute!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
it’s easy to say that we need to grow thicker skin and that there is a dbl standard but until you ultimately experience being a minority you will never know. this comment was not hurtful, but just goes to show you how ppl think and if he says that on air i can only imagine what he says off. kudos to those that try to understand, i feel sorry for the ignorant ppl that dfisregard this as nothing. also, it’s amusing how some of you automatically go on the defense and use the “dbl standard” excuse, what are you guys five? he/she does it to so therefore it’s ok or isn’t a big deal…? hilarious, good luck folks.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
This Country has gone mad……and the ’so called’ sports journalists have driven over the cliff of Political Correctness….
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Come on people! How naive can you be.. if you can’t take
a joke, get out of the sports activities.
Bob G. didn’t mean any harm. Just like what IRRITATED said,
This is double standard. If the driver came from the Far East,
and he said, “he’s getting some egg rolls and fried rice”, nobody
will even budge from their seats.
So what’s the big deal about what he said about a driver with
hispanic background. NADA! People are too sensitive for
nothing. Come on, USA, ease up and enjoy what life has to
offer. Live and learn, people, especially, CNN and the hispanic
community. If these people cannot take a joke, they should go
back where they came from. NObody asked them to come here
to begin with. It’s their personal choice and they must suffer
the consequences that comes with their face.
Bob G. is a Hall of Famer and is a sports-minded person. He
knows better than to defame any race in his broadcasting booth.

hal t is an idiot(watch out white america)
white people loosing their place in society, and they go crazy……lol SAD
WELCOME TO MINORITY WORLD…LOL
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
If the statement was made by a hispanic or a black person about a white person the media would still be laughing and nothing would be done to the person. Griese should not have been given a week off and should be aware that this sicking double standard exists with the media (vast majority) and they believe it is ok. Bob just live with this waco media.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
fast eddie ur an idiot! did you just use the go back where you came from line… read a book and do your research and you’ll know where everyone came from MIJA! lol
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Griese’s comments are mild compared to anything you might hear on conservative talk radio, at any Evangelical event, or in the halls of Republicans. What’s the problem?

on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Suspending Griese for a harmless comment is why this country is going to hell and the liberal Democrats are doing everything they can to make sure we get there. Bob should have been given a gold star and a raise in pay for the excellent entertainment!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
Welcome to the Minority World? Says the truth (really has no concept of the real truth). So you think if is ok for people of color to be prejudice? Very sad but typical.

Boy we live in a strange and screwed up world….So tacos come from Mexico, not Columbia…REALLY? And Im American, living in USA and I have a feeling there are more tacos sold/eaten here than in Mexico. Had Griese said that about me, he would have probably been right. This guy, drives around a funny circle, doing about 200 mph with a bunch of guys all around him doing the same thing, banging off and into eachother untill many times they end up in a wall, over a wall or upside down with little car left around them, I just dont get what a taco can do to him, or how someone suggesting he might like them can hurt him all this much. BUT I guess I will take ESPNs word for it… And what about offending me… I hear them say Hocky all the time on ESPN and that really offends me.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
By the way, I just moved back to the US from Mexico, do you have any idea how hard it is to get a taco down there lolol… At least what us Gringos would call a taco… Oh they make great tacos, its just not what we ever see in the USA…I recomend to the poor race car driver, Shrimp tacos, or Fish tacos… Awesome..

Pretty soon you’ll lose your job for looking at someone wrong. That’s prety bad for the league to suspend Bob G. when recently Rush Limbaugh was recently kicked out of the idea of buying a franchise football team. I think it was St louis. Recent black NFL league players said his ass was gone and that was all f—ed up anyway.
It was said live and they didn’t suspend them.
Who the hell are people trying to please anyway. What ever happen to the old days….Sticks and Stones. Now it’s ‘I can’t wait to sue you.
People need their freaken heads examined. SO WHAT!!!!!! Jesus, oops, I hope I don’t get in trouble by the christain faith.
Charles in Portland. Go RUSH!!!!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
The joke is some of the comments just made. Most people have made a comment or two that they later regretted. However, what really makes this one dumb is that Griese was on television in front of a national audience. As for the go back to where you came from sentiment, that applies to anyone who isn’t Native American. Some Hispanic families have been here longer than the Pilgrims. Pilgrim!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
whoa who brought the dittoheads?! who knew ol bob was sparking a race war with a bad joke lol…
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Who cares who was here first. We all live here in a country that gives more freedoms to those with color. But if you are hispanic and here illegally I think you need to go back and come here legally. DruggyBear, keep in mind it was just a joke. Those that are offended “grow up”.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Let the bleeding hearts keep it up and give no support to the white middle class. Let them continue to call us names like Honkies and berate our beliefs and morals. Let their chosen one continue to not support our military who hates his guts. Who do you think is buying all the guns an ammo at record rates. Next time try and stick a flower in my gun barrell as it will be on full auto and no hesitation in pulling the trigger. I know we have the military leadership for a coup.

on Oct 27th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Hey cut this BS! Bob Griese is a true professional and had a slip of the tongue. To suspend him makes you network pukes simply gutless. Knowing Montoya he probably laughed this remark off. Was it proper… NO, but to suspend Bob after apologizing several times on air in my mind was sufficient! Get over this crap you jerkoff touchy network fools!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Has anyone said anything about the Polish victory lap that is still done by many drivers as a tribute to AQ? Bob did not need to apoligize to anyone. Get a life…that’s just they way it is. When you’re in the spot light you get plenty of comments that might be off color. Life goes on!!
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Montoya’s reaction:

Some years ago a black friend was going to his cabin for a week. I told him not to get sun burned. He said he wouldn’t. Turns out some in the office were “shocked” i said that to a black person. I then called a black buddy in another department and asked him to come down, When he did I had him explain to these people that black people get sunburned too. Ignorant people assuming I had made a racist comment even though my comment didn’t phase who i said it to. What if a Latino commentator said a white man was “out getting a hot dog” do you think that would result in a suspension and, if your answer is no, why not? It’s the same thing.
Not a Mexican–you’re an idiot. There’s a big difference in someone saying something with the intent of being racist and someone just saying it. Do you have any ethnic friends at all?
I bet if you ask Montoya if he was offended he would say know. Big problem are people like you who take anything that can possibly be considered “racist” and make it “racist”. That’s because you yourself are racist so you have that mindset. Instead of lecturing and pointing your finger I suggest you do some soul searching and see why you twist things into racism. If you want to kiss butts of everyone that comes here from aboard thats your business but dont expect the rest of us to when we get stupid meaningless stories about white racism flung in our face all the time. I’m white and have been called ever racist word there is by every race there is and have had my life threatened simply because of the color of my skin but I don’t play crybaby like you about it. Why? Because the ones doing it were the racists–not me. October has been the deadliest month in Afghanistan, 2 little girls have just been kidnapped and murdered and you expect the world to care about meaningless crap like this. If you dont like it here MOVE and take the rest of the whiners with you.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
If you are not a member of the minority groups in this country you better not talk or you may offend someone. Some time in the future we white folks will be a minority race in this country and then we can say anything in front of millions even the “F” word.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
I can’t believe there isn’t something just a bit more important to discuss than this. What Griese should not have done is apologize as he said nothing wrong.

As an American of Mexican descent I have to add that if Griese would have said that ’bout me (being that tacos are my fave fast food) I would have responded, “Yes I was! I had one of carnitas, carne asada, & a fish taco w/ extra roasted green chile, lime, onions, & cilantro. Thank you very much.”
LOL!!!

I sent ESPN an e-mail demanding an apology from them for making this a racial issue. A good friend of mine who is Latino couldn’t believe ESPN made an issue out of this. His exact words were…”what is this country coming to”.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
To “Not a Mexican” that is the most absurb comment anyone has ever said “that all whites consider all hispanics ‘Mexicans’”,
Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Rican, Central Americans and South Americans don’t even consider themselves Spanish. So who are the ignorant anthrops, racists people here? Isn’t everyone somewhat racist? Doesn’t everyone discriminate? No one is exempt and when we all try to understand each other better we all gain from that. So stop pointing the finger unless one actually is a racist. Get off the racist bandwagon and get the facts right. I was born an american but with some spanish/mexican cultral but proud first to be an american where everyone has a right to his or hers opinion.

To Jim B. this was not a sterotypical comment and for you to say that , where did you obtain your journalism degree? how much are you paid to write on such trivial comments made by someone who did not a make a racist remark? don’t you have better topics to get people really concern about where this country is headed. Like the crime rate white, blue and and all collars crimes. the homeless, unemployment? That is where you should be focusing on. The government politicans (all) who are screwing all the American people. Comment on those individuals and can their asses for all their lies, swindling, stealing of the American democracy. Jim get your act together of get a job with “SUN” magazine
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
I also feel we should develop thicker skins but the idea isn’t about tolerating rather than respecting. I can run my hand over a flame and be fine but I’m not going to leave it there.
You can’t allow bedroom talk and frat-boy humor leave the conifnes of those permittable environments. I’m just as guilty but there is a time and a place. When you have a national audience you need to be more responsible because you set a precedence and influence over a broader spectrum of spectators and listners.
African Americans have been steeped in social injustices since the begining thats why there is more outcry when you have cases such as these. Hispanics lack the organization of affirmative action groups that can hold people liable regardless of who it is be it white, black, asian or other.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Somebody please tell me this is a joke! Is ESPN kidding me? I watched that game and didn’t think twice about his comment. Why don’t we just take the constitution and cross out freedom of speech. I’m really getting sick of this shit, there are so many other problems to worry about. If I was Bob Griese I would tell ESPN to take their job and shove it up their ass, and sue them for making this a racial issue.
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Have we gotten so stupid that any comment is construed as racial? Free speech is a lost art and political correctness is for stupid people. Way to go Mr. Griese, your comment was not offensive and I wish more people would speak their mind but you cannot because of reprisals from a bunch of insesnsitive nuts
on Oct 27th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
This is so ridiculous-I am so tired of such thin skinned people causing a stir over something so insignificant as this. We have gone so overboard trying to be “politically correct”. Why is it ok if a black person says something really degrating about a white person, but let a white person even utter a word that someone , somewhere, finds offensive, that they suffer great consequences. There is such a double standard going on, and many, many people are really fed up with it. He did NOTHING wrong at all, and people need to get a life if they think otherwise, and just grow up! ESPN should be really ashamed of themselves for suspending him - hope another network grabs up such a good fellow.

How much do you know about America? And please don’t lie, its pathetic and WIKI doesn’t count either. If “OUR”culture offends you then go back to whence you came, or just shut the hell up. “YOU” are the racist “HERE” in this country and “REAL AMERICANS” are fed up with all of immigrant crap. As a longtime football fan with a lot of respect for Bob Griese and his family, and as someone who is half-Mexican and half-Anglo (English, Scotch-Irish, German), I want to say that I don’t think Bob is a bigot or a bad guy. I also don’t think his comment was hateful or vicious. But I was still sad to hear him say it, because it just wasn’t funny, and it was kind of demeaning. Racial or ethnic jokes just aren’t funny and have no place on TV or on the radio, etc. We all need to respect each other and treat each other as equals. Jokes that are hurtful to any group… white people, women, gays and lesbians, blacks, Hispanics, and so on, should be avoided. Every different race and nation has added something special to America… we have all contributed! So under the Stars and Stripes, with our brave soldiers protecting us, we need to focus on what unites us, and not on what divides us.

Tacos, Burittos, Fajitas, Chimichangas etc. are kind of a Joke, unless you’re in the Resort (American owned) Areas! This whole thing is a Crock of CACA! might as well have robots calling Sporting Events!
and by the way……………I’m and American (I love our Country!) of Latin Descent (Not Self Rightious!)
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 2:43 am
Okay, so he made an insensitive remark and he is getting punished for it. So let it go. But what amazes me is that players can get away with a lot worse and get their hands slapped. There is just no accountability in sports any more.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 2:44 am
I see most of the Posters feel it is “stupid” that he be suspended… and I AGREE. He should have never apologized.
Does this come from having a “black” President in office…. so
we can no longer make comments about anything related to
a minority.. as little as what they eat? Actually, Obama is not Black… he is bi-racial… so, is he being a racist by NOT acknowledging his white half??
The political correctness is more than out of control….it is dictating how Americans should think and act. Isn’t there somethihg wrong with this idea?.. Have we all lost common sense?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:53 am
How stupid to suspend Bob Griese–even for a week. Nothing makes sense. Bob Griese is a good guy–no–a GREAT guy.
Griese gets suspended for a silly comment and Michael Vicks is still playing pro ball. Figure that one out !!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:55 am
seriously? i think thats funny as shit, should have never apologized, i think its fuckin rediculous everyone is always on their toes about racial stuff, who really cares?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 4:17 am
Oddly enough, had it been a Swedish driver and Griese had said he was out having lutefisk, not one word would have been said. Everybody would have had a good chuckle and life would have gone on just fine. But NO. The racist card continues because we force it to be played. Any comment made by a white must be tempered and calculated as not to possibly offend anyone. The non-whites of the world, best grow a thicker skin and beg, borrow, or steal a sense of humor about themselves and everyone around them.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 4:52 am
Are you kidding me?! What a stupid thing to have happen! Political correctness has gone ga-ga in this country and it should really stop. Pretty soon you won’t be able to say someone’s name without having to apologize and then face suspension or expulsion for having said it in the first place. People need to lighten up…
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 5:12 am
What if he said, dale was out eating a cheeseburger.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 5:57 am
Stop crying about poor ‘ol Bob’s suspension. He deserved it! Not for saying something stereotypical of Latinos, but because he got it wrong! Tacos are Mexican! Montoya is Colombian! If you’re going to try and say something racially insensitive, at least get it right! So I say, Fire the guy for being stupid, not racist! Agapito
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 6:00 am
Fast Eddie you got some big one’s typing on a computer huh? Man up and say it to another man’s face you racist prick.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 6:31 am
Bob Griese did nothing wrong, it was a joke, and his comment had no racial intent.
Since Montoya is Colombian, and only a Mexican would have parity with tacos, (as per the liberal commentators) then Montoya must have been having a cup of coffee, or even better Montoya must have been snorting some cocaine and hanging out with some of his drug cartel buddies…..
How does that make all you BLEEDING HEART MORONS FEEL!!!!
AH HA BLEEDING HEART MORONS!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 7:13 am
It’s typical for one person to become offended at anything someone says no matter how trivial. Everyone wants to be so politically correct that they don’t care that they’re destroying someone over a harmless remark. Bob Griese will be hurt 1000 times more than Montoya ever would have been and I’ll bet he wasn’t offended at all, even though he’s an Idiot on the track.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 7:46 am
this country has its head so far up it”s ass we may never see daylight if we don”t get rid of the thin skin attitude, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the left wing bullshit. I”m American born of German decent and I don”t give a shit what people call me. I know who I am and damn proud of it. I had a Polish for lunch yesterday,so what does that make me? fUCK ESPN. I suppose that thats political incorrect? I don”t have time for this crap an the people that think this is newsworthy. Go Rush. Stick it up their ass every time you have air time.
jim,sick of the bullshit.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 7:51 am
We all attack Bob Griese for making an innocent mistake as being a racist. If you have never in your life made a off color remark about another persons size, color, religious preference and sexual preference you must be the next coming of Christ. I have worked around many different people of all shapes, colors and total differences in lifestyles than my own and I have heard almost all people I have been around make a comment about someone different than themselves and not even be a little taken back by the hurt they may have caused. But God forbid if they hear about a comment that may be critical or an attempt of off color humor to themselves. Bob Griese has been an outstanding individual in both sports and life itself yet he finds himself having to apologize and have his name dragged down by what is becoming another problem for which there is no medicine.
HYPROCRISY. By the way I am a Polish person who for years have had jokes told about my nationality and actually found some hilarious.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 7:52 am
bob greise has nothing to be sorry. for. i guess its time for a taco.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:08 am
Here is reality, if were Denny Hamlin and Griese said “He must be at the pub”, no one would blink an eye. Stop being so offended especially about one person’s comments. For the people who do not get the refrence, Denny Hamlin is Iris.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:08 am
Do you think some people are a little too sensitive these days? I’m an American of Mexican descent and I eat tacos as does Juan Pablo Montoya. Mr. Griese’s comment didn’t offend him nor did it offend me. Does anyone think it would have been a big deal if Mr. Griese had said Dale Earnhardt was having saurkraut or Jamie McMurray was eating potatoes or John Andretti was eating spaghetti? I think not. Doesn’t this country have more important things to worry about? Shame on ESPN for buying into the hype of a few over sensitive individuals.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:21 am
I remember quite vividly when a couple of “black” nfl broadcasters made a remark about Bret Favre once when someone asked what Favre would do about retiring. One analyst said that he (Favre) would probably stay in Mississippi and enjoy his cajun food along with his retirement, and the other said he would probably agree with that! So I guess that makes it official, all white folks in mississippi are crawdad eaters? Then there’s this professor at the university of Texas who is hispanic and said that the hispanics are going to kill all of us americans and take their country back? And where was “brother AL (Sharpton), when all those blacks were popping each other off a couple of weeks ago? I guess he was out looking to see if he could tie that to Don Imus also!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:29 am
Did anyone check to see if this guy might really have been out eating a taco? This is embarrassing for ESPN to react like this.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:47 am
Give me a break. Just because he is white he gets in trouble. Any other ethnicity gets by saying anything. Political correctness is only if your white person. Its really stupid.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:05 am
What the heck???
As an American of Mexican heritage I find no problem with what Bob said. Let me turn it around, what if griese was the driver and this event took place in Europe or Colombia and they said “oh well, griese must be out eating a hot dog or hamburger” who would really care?
Besides, Taco’s are awesome! I also don’t know what the Colombian national equivalent to a taco or hotdog is but I bet its pretty dang good.
Relax people, if anything I guess we should be mad at Mark Sanchez for eating a hot dog and not a taco after he spanked the Raiders.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:31 am
I dropped ESPN the Mag after they were takin over by Disney and started trying to become a “social” magazine instead of a sports one. If I wanted Time magazine I’d subscribe, I guess no one wants any magazine anymore. ESPN used to be great with SC and some of the other shows they just plain suck now. Stuart Scott is a douche, Chris Behrman is a PC wimp, Olbermann, Patrick…nuff said.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:35 am
Who gives a shit that he said that spic was eating a taco. All the spics and gooks should swim back across the river and chimichungas up their asses.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:42 am
STOP IT JUST STOP IT, the situation is insane, can the world just grow up??? black people call each other names that get white people just about thrown in prision, what the heck is going on here, just listen to what he said, it was nothing. Bob it a good guy that has done many great things for years for the community and he is now going to be soley judged saying Montoya (who is a real hot head himself and certainly no saint by any stretch) went out for a taco, the liberals should be the ones that are shamed.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:42 am
join me and thousands like with me who are buoycotting - not just because this Griese issue but mainly of about allowing Volk back into the NFL- ESPN is now also on our list- our growing organization is going to stop this re-diculous “political correctness” gone wild!- We are stopping these organizations by bouycotting them and their major advertisers- keep tuned….
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:55 am
Bob Griese should be censored, not for his remark but for imposing his son on the football world by buying him a starting position in college football over much better players, millionaires sons who have never had to earn a thing in their lives ought not to be allowed on the field with true athletes.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 10:07 am
al sharpton and jesse jackson should be censored too! Griese makes a taco comment and the world has come to an end. get over it.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 10:16 am
I just gave a quick glance over these comments so didn’t notice…but did anyone suggest Obama have them both to the White House for a beer?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 10:17 am
I agree with crs…. Jesse and Al, two of the most prejudiced people ever, need to be censored. In the meantime, why is it so hard for people to keep their mouths shut when this world is soooo jumpy on anyone saying anything that is not PC….

on Oct 31st, 2009 at 10:51 am
Lighten up Francis! I can’t believe he had to apologize yet get suspended for a week! Some hypocrites are way too sensitive. It’s just the double standard of reverse racism at work. A minority can say anything and get away with it. Woe to the white guy who tries to make an innocent joke.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 10:56 am
ohh get over it.. People in America need to get over themselves.. They have no problem making fun of Christians and those that believe in GOD but .. Ohh dont say anything bad about Mexicans or any other Hispanic group. and dont you are make fun or diagree with obama.. Get over it America and get on with life..

It`s ok to make jokes about a person`s race as long as you`re not a white guy.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:08 am
What Mr. Griese said was ignorant. He should have said he is out getting some black beans, rice, and plantains. I assume he(Griese) thought Juan was Mexican, which would make his remark not only appropriate but amusing. Unless of course you think that eating tacos is demeaning to Mexicans.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:09 am
Now come no one ever says anything about lefse?

Insanity! I am Comanche Indian, have a brother who is gay, and a grand daughter who is half black. I know racism! However, I dont believe Stanford should had to of changed there name to the Cardinal,or any other mascot for that matter. I could care less if gay’s get married(good luck you have less than 50% chance of staying that way). And last but not least, my grand daughter is gonna love TACO’S, watermelon, fried chicken, pot roast, bagels, french fries, hot dog’s, and any other food we are blessed to have!

I think we need to get off the PC B.S.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:19 am
Here we go again… Now if Jeff Gordon was “out eating a hot-dog” it would have no attention. In fact, this came before BET television had their awards the other night. When is there going to be a WET (White entertainment television)? Reverse descrimination at its best.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:23 am
Oh, nobody mentioned Bob is the COLOR analyst not the play by play announcer! Just doin’ your job Bob! Keepin it real!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:27 am
Its important for people to be sensitive to others’ feelings, but sometimes this PC crap just goes too far. Listening to the clip, it was a pretty mild, innocuous remark. Griese is a mild mannered guy. It was said in honest good humor. If he’d said the guy went out to get a slice, I wouldn’t have been offended. People should get over themselves.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:29 am
Actually, if Greise said that he was out having an Empanada that would be OK, because it is a colombian snack similar to a taco.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:34 am
Get a grip people. I heard the comment and I can’t see where that was a derogatory remark. I am fed up with dumb asses that if you say GOD, Taco, Negro Etc. it may offend someone. there are comics on TV and doing shows that really cut different races. Come on guys, ” Out getting a taco “? Where is that offending????? If you didn’t like our comments in the U.S. go back to your own country where it’s against their rules to speak !!!!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:48 am
Does anyone recall Oral Hershisers comment during the LLWS? As San Diego was putting a hurting on Texas just after the Asia Pacific, from Chinese Taipei, team beat Mexico to advance to the finals Oral says this. “If I were the coach of the Chinese Taipei team I wouldn’t let my kids watch this game, I would tell them to go eat their wontons and go to bed”. I was waiting for backlash on that and it never happened! What if Montoya was out having a steak? Should Texans and American steak lover get upset? I am a white guy that lives in Ca and have tacos all the time! We live in a melting pot if you have thin skin about your national origin then go back to where you are from! Let Griese have his job back and lets stop with all this PC stuff that has just become exhausting to hear about!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:48 am
IF the guy was caucasian would Griese be in trouble because he said “Hes out eting a hamburger?” I really doubt that Griese had any malicious intent. Pretty soon we will be afraid to say anything for fear of offending someone.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 12:00 pm
All I have to say is what would Jesus do.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 12:12 pm
When will white America learn it is not our place to make any comment on someone not white? If Chris Rock or George Lopez make a comedy routine insulting whites, its comedy and we should learn to laugh at ourselves. Minorities in America need to quit being so damned sensitive and ready to wave the racist flag for anything uttered from a white persons mouth. Funny how everything is racist now, 30 years ago you were a bigot, then it changed to you are prejudiced, now your a racist. I doubt most people can logically explain what a racist is. I heard Al Sharpton call former Pres Bush a “white cracker” on tv. Not a word was said about it, the white apologist are as bad as the whiner minorities in this country. Look out America, we are headed to the same doom as many African countries that have booted out the white man…..
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 12:13 pm
OK, everybody needs to move on now. This is America. There will and always has been racism, prejudice & racial slurs made about every single race known to man.
Now all that’s happening is that some of those people can’t hold it inside no matter who they are and it just comes out. Most of them seem to be holding a mic in an open broadcast. It is what it is. As a Hispanic I guess I should stop telling my Jew Jokes, Nigger Jokes, Hick Jokes, Wetback Jokes, Poor White Trash Jokes, Blonde Jokes, Dead Baby Jokes, 3 Guys in a Bar Jokes, Raghead Jokes, Chinky What you thinky Jokes, etc. etc. etc.
Oh crap….is this thing on?????????????

We were working a interior office project in the same office building in Miami as Bob G. had his business. My co-worker (who is African American) saw him in the hallway and approached B.G.and offered his hand to him while telling him what a great fan he was.Bob G.refused to shake his hand and told co-worker to get out of his way.I knew then and ther he was a asshole and lost my respect for the jerk.Hope he loses the respect most sports fans had for the idiot.Go away and stay away Bobby.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 12:44 pm
What if he’d said, “Oh, he’s probably out sucking somebody off”. Who would have been offended then? Women or just gays? And for what reason? It only happens billions of times a day. I say, “Be offensive, offend everybody, no matter what race, creed, color, religion, nationality. Make sure no one is left out. Listen, PEOPLE, we must rise above who we think we are to the level of HUMAN BEING. We must get bigger than the small notions of, “I’m a Jew” or “I’m a nigger” or “I’m a honky” or I’m this race or that race. Let go of your self imposed label and rise to the level of HUMAN BEING. You will then see that you cannot be insulted, it’s impossible. Who cares if you’re this or that race, as long as you’re in the HUMAN RACE?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 1:13 pm
kurt, I’m sorry your friend was slighted in the hallway and I’m sure it was embarrassing, but consider this. Griese must be inundated with “well wishers” and fans, maybe dozens of times daily, even to the point that it is distracting from the job he is attempting to do in the moment. Well known people are not obligated legally nor morally to acknowledge every hand that is offered in friendship, there are just too many. Your incident probably was one of those moments wherein he was distracted by something critical to the job at hand. I am around celebrities often and the one thing I know is their desire for privacy, especially in public places. That is the main reason employees at the Mirage are forbidden to approach them and are required to treat them like a normal human beings.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 2:02 pm
I’m a 36 yr Cuban-American, born and raised in Miami and could care less for Bob Griese (for other reasons). But, if him saying that Juan Pablo is “out having a taco” is racist or insensitive, you guys have to put your big boy panties on.
Of course Bob is a white racist pig for other reasons. Sadly for them, many whites don’t feel they should educate themselves on different ethnicities.
That could be one reason the rest of the globe is more an more educated every day and Americans fall shorter and shorter from the mark as a country!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 2:16 pm

What is wrong with speculating that a person of Columbian descent might be eating a taco? Isn’t that akin to speculating that an Italian-American might be eating a bowl of pasta? Or an Irish American might be enjoying his/her favorite Ale? It all seems rather silly to me.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Stupid white power jump into racially charged comments… nice
Upon initially hearing it (the Griese taco comment) it sounds distasteful. However, it does seem true that if someone was saying an italian guy was eating some pasta or a european guy was having tea or whatnot, then it’d pass by no problem.
I think, in america, some people want to feel like everyone is out to get them and will create a stir over nothing. Usually it’s about white people being racist in some way and tied into all white people. Rarely is a stir made about a `minority` being racist, because that doesn’t count. I believe every group of people has just as many bigots as every other group of people. The only issue in america has been that a select group of white people have ruled the country, held its power, for nearly the whole time. Not all white people, a certain group of white males… not all white males. White people also have the largest population of people living in poverty, but you rarely hear about that group of white people.
So anyway, its easy for people who aren’t white to label `white people` or `white males` as the culprit… and that’s just as stupid, bigoted or whatever as saying all people with a latin/hispanic sounding name eat tacos (although I’m pretty sure EVERYONE eats tacos at some point) or any other assumption people make about a whole group of people.
It’s traditionally said that white people shouldn’t complain about these slights because they’re the ones who always enjoy the prosperity of being white… but again, I would refer to the 15-20 million white people living below the poverty line in america, who apparently aren’t enjoying the alleged prosperity.
And not just because there are tons of poor white people, but because of the same reason the very first poster here was mad about the taco comment- It seemed disrespectful and insulting. You’re allowed to be insulted, and so are white people. So it’s not alright for anyone to say this stuff, but in the same sense it’s going to be said by all sorts of people and we better be able to get over it. THAT being said, it’s not alright, so tv broadcasters shouldn’t be allowed to say it and I think a 1 week suspension is appropriate.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Would he be suspended if he said a WHITE guy was going to get a Cheeseburger?? Let’s grow up a little ESPN
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Irish people eat potatoes
Italian people eat spaghetti
English people have tea and crumpets
French people eat baguettes, are rude, weak and hairy
Russians are always drunk on vodka
It is a bit odd that all of this can be said with no problems usually…
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:22 pm
This reminds me of a Fox radio sports commentator that used to work with Siciliano in Los angeles. The moreon made the comment that he needed to go to Tijuana to eat good mexican food. If this idiot would know his history and he would stop hanging with his white skinhead friends he would realized that Los Angels is Mexico and he did not have to go all the way to Tijuana to find good Mexican food. Bob Griese is in the same category as this idiot and of course the infamous John Roocker who made those unforgetable comments about New Yorkers.
CDiaz
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Carlos Diaz… Are you saying the people who think los angeles isn’t mexico are white skinheads?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:28 pm
I knew when white guys started feeling guilty and giving minorities even more than equal status, this would happen. In trouble for saying he went for a taco? For crying in a bucket maybe he was. Keep it up .
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:44 pm
In most other countries especially in poor countries like Columbia and Mexico they would die for a taco from the United States that has real beef in it instead of rat or dog meat. I eat taco’s in this country but I wouldn’t eat any meat in a foreign country.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 3:49 pm
First off, I’m hispanic. Second, when I heard this on the news I just laughed. I thought it was funny. Even funnier is what would have happened if he had made a fried chicken joke about a black driver. He probably would’ve gotten fired. You know Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been calling for his head.
Now ESPN can’t fire anyone for making racially suggestive food comments.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Everyone here missed the real issue. Taco Bell does not sponsor NASCAR, they sponsor other sports like MLB. Bob’s comment would have been ok if Taco Bell was a NASCAR sponsor. You can not plug companys that are not sponsors.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 4:29 pm
so Rush makes a comment about Mcnabb and they fire him.

My response to Mr. Griese’s comment and those who think the comment is no big deal is this: (1) Mr. Griese’s apology should be accepted. (2) The next time Mr. Griese is absent, one of his colegues should make the comment that he is “OUT SERIAL KILLING” or “RUNNING A PONSI SCHEME OR EMBELIZING SOME FUNDS”!

Griese’s comment
is no more insensitive than to suggest an Italian might be “out eating spagetti!” Freedom of speech and being sensitive has become a joke. Call it “ethnic” power. That is, “We have the power to get a famous white guy kicked off the air.” The media managers need to hold off their knee jerks until someone really does insult someone. I hate all comments that denigrate people. This one abused no one!

If the guys name had been Lars Anderson and the comment was “he’s out getting some lutefisk” nobody would have said a word about. This poititcal correctness carried to an extreme.

Here in Colorado if the Rockies score seven or more runs you get 4 tacos for a dollar. Does their management believe that we are all Hispanic. NO. ESPN get your heads out of your CULO (ass in spanish I believe) Bob Griese is one of the classiest persons at your Network. Maybe you need to look at some of your commercials. Then suspend YOURSELVES. Where does it all stop? You have added racism when there was none intended. Next time take Bob Out for some SUSHI and call it even. Or was that inappropriate. Sorry you won’t hear from me FOR 1 WEEK. I’m SUSPENDED
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 5:35 pm
I have to agree with Indiana Joe on that one. It’s rediculous to want to muzzle everything that people say. Being what we call “Politically Correct” is pretty “Politically Retarded.” It’s one thing to be intentionally rude and racist, and of course people will ask, “Where do you draw the line?” The truth is that people need to have a little tougher skin and if you’re going to get offended off of that… you’re going to always have issues. We continually try to muzzle freedom of speech to the point that we’ll need an app just to tell us what we can and can’t say…. Political Correctness is a front…. it masks what we don’t want people to see and it allows us to put on an image that we rather be associated with because it seems acceptable by our peers…. Politically Correct = Fake… look at most politicians….. the proof is in the pudding!!

Years ago Jimmy “THE GREEK” Snyder made a comment about black athletes. He said and don’t quote me. Is that people of color had an extra muscle in their upper leg. That was the reason that they ran faster. That comment whether true or not got him fired from CBS I believe. The networks pay those individuals to speak and say what they believe. Was Jimmy “THE GREEK” a racist. No he was not. I met the man in High School in Las Vegas 30 yrs ago. ESPN you pretty much blew how you handled the Bob Griese incident. SHAME ON YOU AND SHAME ON CBS FOR THEIR SCREW UP YEARS AGO.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 5:50 pm
well next we will be firing announcers because their deodorant is offensive to some people. If Sandy Kofax did imediately come out on the mound and someone said he was in the locker room finishing his lox, bagel and creame cheese is that racist!
Can’t we cut everyone a little slack and not take oursleves so serioiously. And should Greise be fired if he said,’ there go the redskins kicking another field gold? i guess saying redskins is all right but not taco.
Get with the program America jude me on what i do and not on some innocenty sterotype.

As a big NASCAR fan, I’m going to miss boycotting ESPN’s coverages. If they suspend someone for a harmless comment, then they can kiss my rear. I’ll take my viewing elsewhere and their advertisers can punish them. This is just getting sick. Whites need to stand up for themselves and start fighting back against the real racists that are ruining our country by turning everyone into a bunch of pansies.

sickntired.I guess NECKCAR, is the only sporting event that you watch nowadays, since all the really “TRUE” Sports are now a melting-pot of Humans, Oh yeah………in your case “Real Racisist” (ie: Minorities)! Jim Rome, once said when Jeff Gordon (A White Human), first started racing the “Necks”…”Everyone is pissed off at Gordon, Because, He’s the only one that has a wife with all her TEETH!” I reckon if Don King or a Hispanic would have said that…on air! you would have Crapped your pants!………..More so that you probably do NOW!

I’m tired of the hypocrisy! Ever listen to the words in rap music? Not only won’t any “artist” appolgize for that crap but they get paid for it. Then a great guy like Bob Griese makes one taco comment and it’s like “whoa, what is this world coming to”. Grow up ESPN and all all you righteous wannabe’s. I’m suspending ESPN for two weeks.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Relax people. It was just an off-the-cuff comment and I’ll bet Montoya is chuckling too. Bob Griese is not a biggot. Give the man a break.

give me a break, suspend for a week over something so stupid and is getting blown way out…i guess ill just suspend espn for the week their is other ways to watch sports…

I am not fan of Bob Griese…I really think that he is an ass..Because I am an Ohio State Fan. and he never has anything nice to say about them…But enough is enough…. I am tired of this correctness that us Americans have to follow to keep from hurting someone’s feelings.
Come on know…this is a bunch of s–t…let’s get back to being real
Americans and quite the BULL!!!!!!!!!!!

My question is “How many idoiots do we have in our country” and yes I’ll get all kiinds of idiots complaining about that!!!!!!!!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
We need to make an example of such careless insensitive actions by human beings. He should be imprisoned for life under the ‘3 strikes your out’ thing. I am sure he has said something this detrimental at least two times previous to this incident. All four letters words should be eliminated from professional sports including t_ _ _.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Hi everyone,
Just want to say I am mexican and I did not get that upset by the comment. I was a little shocked but it wasn’t anything like when someone called a group of female basketball players nappy headed *****. I do not feel people should blow it all up and I do not feel he should be fired. An apology was good enough!
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 9:56 pm
They don’t eat taco’s in South America? Plus if anyone ever says that I’m eating a hamburger, it’s on. ha ha Just because I’m white, that doesn’t mean I eat hamburgers.

I’m Latina, Mexican to be exact and Mr. Griese’s comment doesn’t insult me in the least. Geez, my husband is Japanese and if he had said “out eating some sushi” that would have been ok too. I don’t know…guess we have to have something to take our minds off the economy.

No wonder our country is in the shape its in today, look who’s in charge in every job, industry, entertainment, publishing, media, manufacturing, Goverment, etc., a bunch of educated intellectuals with no common sense.

I happen to be a Florida “Cracker”, & proud of it. We also call our neighbors north of us Georgia “Crackers”, & there is nothing racist about that word. The term was first used by the Indians, to describe the cowboys of Florida & Georgia, cracking a whip to move the cattle. The Indians called them “Crackers” rather than cowboys, due to the crack of the whip, thus the name “Cracker”.

Ridiculous. Should not even be an issue. Juan Pablo
Montoya is surely elated that they mentioned his
name even though he was not in the Nascar graphic being shown. Bob Griese’s harmless comment was
blown way out of proportion and he should not be
suspended. Instead of something boring like he
was out to lunch, Mr. Griese at least made it entertaining by using an actual food item that we can all relate to. The media executives are clearly out of touch with the real American people. Bad decision by executives.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
If it was a german guy and he said he was out having a brat would there be a big deal? If it was a frenchman and he said he was out getting some bread and wine would it be a big deal? If the dude was italian and Greise said he was out getting some pasta would it be a big deal?
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Bob Griese is a standup guy. This is not news worthy information. I read the article and then listened to it on YouTube. And I wasted 5 minutes of my life for something that is blown out of proportion. Do we know if Pablo wasn’t out having a Taco?????
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Griese could have responded in a million different ways to that question about where was Montoya. But being the ignorant and insensitive (probably racist) individual that he is, thats par for the course. If that type of remark was made about an African american eating watermelon or fried chicken you better believe he would have been FIRED!! Deservately so! But I suppose most of you Anglos will never understand. It will be a cold day in hell before you get it. Thats the sad part.
on Oct 31st, 2009 at 11:46 pm
If Darwin’s theory of evolution is correct, sometime down the road we will loose our ability to speak, not because of natural selection, but because we just became afraid to speak to one another. How sad.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 12:40 am
Hey Milt, ever wonder why we would become afraid to speak to each other?
The greatest motivation for fear is ignorance.
Newborns and toddlers aren’t afraid to communicate and mingle with each other no matter their race or nationality.
No ignorance = no fear
IGNORANCE is the key word here!!
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 12:58 am
This moron should be banned for life and his job at being a “sports commentator” should cease to exist.
Montoya is of Colombian descent and therefore the idiotic remark of the “eating a taco” goes beyond stupidity but it is not racism. Having said that, Gliese should consider joining the Barnum Circus as a joker so that people can throw pies at his stupid face.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 1:04 am
Griese made a joke. A funny joke. Not ignorant, not sensitive. If a latino would have said it, it would not have been a big deal at all.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 1:18 am
What a complete bunch of B.S! Suspended for a week. Why? This crap is getting out of hand….I guess we have finally reached the point where all of the “white” announcers will have to have a pre-script that they will follow word for word during their telecasts. A joke, a complete joke and I know for a fact that this guy does like tacos…
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 8:59 am
Hey all of you who think its no big deal. Just be reminded of some of the most recent stupid comm10 - Hillary Clinton:
whole comment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM2DSWZaI7w
9 - Kelly Tilghman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ugYbCIbHZs Tilghman drew criticism for remarks about Tiger Woods during a January 4 2008 PGA Tour Telecast. In response to co-anchor Nick Faldo’s joke that younger players should “gang up” on Woods, Tilghman replied “Lynch him in a back alley”. Tilghman was laughing during the exchange with Faldo at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, and Woods’ agent at IMG was quoted as saying he didn’t think there was any ill intent. She apologized two days later during the final broadcast. On January 9, it was announced that The Golf Channel had suspended Kelly for two weeks as a result of her comment, a reversal of course from the channel’s earlier declaration that she would not be suspended.
8 - Don Imus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui1jPNDWArM On April 4, 2007, during a discussion about the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, Imus characterized the Rutgers University women’s basketball team players as “rough girls” commenting on their tattoos. responded in his familiar “urban-speak” vernacular by referring to them as “hardcore ho’s”. The “urban-speak” banter continued with Imus describing the girls as “nappy-headed hos” and McGuirk remarking that the two teams looked like the “jigaboos versus the wannabes” mentioned in Spike Lee’s film, School Daze; apparently referring to the two teams’ differing appearances.
” IMUS: That’s some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos andâ
McGUIRK: Some hard-core hos, Tom.
IMUS: That’s some nappy-headed hos there. I’m gonna tell you that now, man, that’s someâwoo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, likeâkinda likeâI don’t know.
McGUIRK: A Spike Lee thing.
IMUS: Yeah.
McGUIRK: The Jigaboos vs. the Wannabesâthat movie that he had.
7 - Rod Wheeler:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pLJxMzoXdY Rod Wheeler is a former Washington, D.C. homicide detective. He said these comments in defense of the police who said in a ***case that they are looking for a “Hispanic male”. To those who might be confused what a Hispanic male is, his response is, “Not a black male, not a Chinese male– with his eyes like this — but a Hispanic male”.
6 - John Gibson:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0af-RiRDoGk On The Big Story on May 11, 2006, Gibson responded to a Washington Post story which noted that the US Census reported “Nearly half of the nation’s children under five are racial or ethnic minorities, and the percentage is increasing mainly because the Hispanic po***tion is growing so rapidly”. Gibson instructed viewers: “Do your duty. Make more babies… half of the kids in this country under five years old are minorities. By far the greatest number are Hispanic. You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the po***tion is Hispanic. Why is that? Well, the Hispanics are having more kids than others. Notably the ones Hispanics call gabachos, white people, are having fewer.” Time magazine’s Massimo Calabresi wrote that Gibson’s interpretation of the census data was “wildly wrong”. Gibson’s remarks were criticized by Keith Olbermann and Media Matters for America, which later named his remark one of the top 11 “Most outrageous comments of 2006″.
5 - KNBC broadcaster:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmhrPdkW1cE The announcer, who was part of the KNBC broadcast team, saw that a white man was in the lead and said, “Well, Ed, is it one of these matters where the Kenyans and Ethiopians they see — let’s be honest here — they see a white guy out front and they don’t take him seriously.”
4 - Alex Trebek
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg7Wg-RG9hk Alex Trebek’s remark to an contestant on show Jeopardy!.
3 - John McCain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp9qKSnRFCw McCain at Fox debate at South Carolina
2 - Rosie O’Donnell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0HtTReGt08 On December 5, 2006, O’Donnell made a comment in reference to the November 29, 2006 drunken appearance by Danny DeVito on the show “The View”, she was amazed that it was an international news media item, and joked that it was being talked about as far away as China. “You know, you can imagine in China it’s like, ‘Ching-chong, ching-chong. Danny DeVito. Ching-chong, ching-chong-chong. Drunk. The View. Ching-chong”. Some, including the Asian American Journalists Association, interpreted her comments as a “mockery of the Chinese language” to which O’Donnell responded it was simply her sense of humor and not meant to demean. She later apologized on air.
1 - Paul Dawson:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XURRzofbMc0 An English teacher at Valley High School calls student an N-word and gets suspended for 10 days. This report from WHAS11 News channel covers the whole story.
C’mon people the Griese remark should be included on this list. And if you don’t think it should. maybe you should take a serious look at yourself!!

Rudy:
Nobody can completely understand or feel for another person. For example. men cannot completely understand women and vice versa. The same holds true for differences among cultures. We will never be able to undertand each other perfectly. It’s impossible.
Please understand, I feel we need to try.
I do not think that the “key” word here is ignorance.
I think it’s hypersensitivity. We are becoming way too sensitive to every spoken word. So sensitive that it’s dividing us. And that’s a culture none of us want.
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 12:50 pm
i guarantee bob griese is less racist than most of the scum-sucking dittoheads who have infiltrated this board
on Nov 1st, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Milt,
I have to agree with you on men never understanding women and vice versa. But just because I may not understand my wife entirely, does that mean that she’ll think its funny if I say her cooking sucks, her make-up makes her look like a clown, she looks like she gained 10 lbs, she dresses like a hooker etc. you get my point, right? We may say those things in jest or without thinking. BUT it offends her !!!!!!
You all say we’re making too much of this or we are being too sensitive. Well- tell your wives and girlfriends that she is being too sensitive and let me know what she says.
THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK !!!
