Univ. of New Mexico soccer player Elizabeth Lambert has become the posterchild for mean-spirited, unsportsmanlike conduct following a series of onfield incidents aginst BYU in which she pulled opponents’ hair, kicked them and tackled them (video after the jump). All with video cameras watching. Not smart. She’s been suspended; No “soccer flop” was needed here.
The PTI guys talked about it Friday, and the annoying Tony Kornheiser added this little gem:
I’ll also say she’s tougher than Adam Lambert, and she wears less eyeliner.
Kornheiser tries to crack a joke about every 30 seconds, and most of the time it’s of the roll-your-eyes type. Some are upset because they see it as Kornheiser saying gays are weaker than girls. He’s got a cover, because Elizabeth and Adam share the last name and it’s the kind of stupid humor he’s known for. But if her last name was Willis, would he really say, “She’s tougher than Bruce?” Maybe, but I doubt it. Nothing to march on Bristol over, but another example of how annoying Kornheiser is.

The thing that makes Kornheiser’s comments seem even more iditoic is the fact that I seriously doubt that a large percentage of PTI’s target audience even knows who Adam Lambert is.
As far as the whole Elizabeth Lambert situation…As a soccer fan, it sickens me that this is the most attention the sport has recieved in the US since David Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy!!!

It should be noted (and I should have done it in the article – I just forgot) that the PTI guys talk about American Idol more than any other sports show I’ve ever seen because Kornheiser likes the show. So PTI viewers probably do know who Adam Lambert is. Still, I wasn’t impressed with the joke.

This overly-sensitive reaction to Kornheiser’s comment is further evidence of the total pussyfication of alot of gay people! Lighten up a little! If we keep reacting to every little innocent remark we’ll eventually not get any attention at all…like the boy who cried wolf. Save your hand-wriinging for something important!

Are you fuckin kidding me? I watch PTI every day of the week and Kornheiser meant no harm at all by that comment. He’s actually the most gay-friendly guy I have ever seen on ESPN. He’s follows American Idol religiously and is a fan of Adams. His favorite show is Glee for god’s sake. And this is a sports man in his 60′s we’re talking about. That comment wasn’t an attack to the gays, he only said it b/c her last name happens to be Lambert and she IS probably tougher than Adam. Even Adam will tell you that. God, it’s so sad how people automatically think someone is attacking the gay community anytime they mention a gay person.
I think everyone should go back and read Wayne’s comment.

PTI is one of my favorite shows. I didn’t know who Adam Lambert was until I figured out from reading this that he’s the gay guy from that singing contest show I never watch. I think Tony’s line is hilarious. Lighten up, folks

Tony loves American idol, and has confessed to having man crushes on a few good looking athletes like brett favre or tom brady.
he just called a la laker “cute”‘ today, the one dating maria sharpova…his name is sasha vujacic.
