In my limited but painful experience as a gay guy who has seen two close friends lose everything (cars, homes, careers, respect, self-respect and the will to live!) I can’t imagine how it in any way “helped” his athletic career. Disdain for addiction and those addicted tells more about the judge than it does the judged.

Not only should Andre give up his titles, but the ATP should reevaluate his membership in the Hall of Fame, taking the two years after his positive test (those for which he should have been suspended) out of the equation. He broke the rules and should pay for it. He lied cheated and stole from all the players that were playing within the rules. He did not care about the ATP then, they should return the favor now.

oh wait this thread is about Andre and not me huh? ok then LEAVE ANDRE ALONE! he overcame addiction and depression to mount one of the greatest comebacks in tennis history! and how about the $140 million he has raised for charity? Safin isn’t player or man enough to shine Andre’s head!

some of these tennis players are so ignorant, as if they’ve never read up on the reasons why people do illicit drugs and how what he used was different than steroids. what decade are they living when the are surprised anyone has used drugs, and deciding that its the worst possible thing he could have done.

are they his parents? did his drug use affect them? did the fact he played worse on drugs affect them?

people who use drugs like meth, use it because they are at a low point in their life, not because the want to win a tennis championship. btw, agassi sucked while he used it. he was ranked somewhere in the low 100s when he was using. so if these people did their research, they’d realize that the meth didn’t help him.

he said so himself – he was depressed, hated his life, his marriage and his career. having compassion never occurred to these critics?

and with all the great work he has done bulding a school for poor kids, and seeing everyone of the graduating class of to univerisy, he made up for all his mistakes.

Did you see him on 60 Minutes? Wah wah wah…poor him. To paraphrase: “I made horrible mistakes and did crystal meth. I only played tennis to please my father…I don’t even like it.”

yah, as much as i love safin, im going to have to say i disagree with him here. i think that agassi’s admission is amazing, and it shows us the extreme pressure he was under. i think that being an elite athlete is something unique, and something most people can’t understand (especially as an individual athlete). i find it very interesting, and am curious if any other top players went through a similar time in their lives.

Never was a big fan of Agassi but the shit he is taking from other tennis players is completely undeserved. I heard Martina slam him. Surprised Safin has added to it. Thought he was more chill than that.
