Saints lose to Cowboys, unbeaten no more

So much for two unbeaten teams meeting the Super Bowl. The Dallas Cowboys spoiled the New Orleans Saints’ perfect season, going into the Big Easy to win, 24-17, Saturday night. The Cowboys never trailed and were the better team. The Saints had a last-gasp chance to play for the tie, but Drew Brees lost a fumble at midfield with six seconds left that ended the game.

Had the Saints (13-1) come back to win, the biggest goat would have been Cowboys’ kicker Nick Folk, who missed a 24-yard field goal with 2:19 left that would have put Dallas (9-5) up 27-17.

Saints’ fans need to be concerned, since their team has now played three subpar outings in a row. They got lucky to beat Washington in overtime when the Redskins’ kicker missed a chip-shot field goal, and last week barely beat a Falcons team missing its starting quarterback and running back. This team has not played well since dominating the Patriots on Monday night four games ago, and look flat for three quarters against Dallas.

The Cowboys, who have been an awful December team, got a huge win and still control their situation in the playoffs. Tony Romo outplayed Brees, so the wolves will be at bay, at least until the Cowboys’ next game. The Saints’ loss leaves the Colts (14-0) as the only unbeaten team.

I am no Cowboys fan by any strech but they need to kick this kickwer before he infects the rest of the team, that being said I’m glad they put it on the Saints! and the Kicker made the victory harder if anything I couldn’t imagine having to tote this dead weight along for the ride.. RC

Cowboys have never played better! I agree with rich on Folk, even looking at his practice kicks before the game was embarrassing. They need to kick him off, maybe hire a fresh kicker to get the job done right so us Cowboys fans wont keep going through hell. Haha Good win for the boys…

Yeah the cowboys did do well tonight. I am glad that they won that game. I’m tired of all the people back here suddenly turning into Saints fans and bagging on everyone about their teams (I’m in Louisiana). I’m glad they lost so that it gives them something to shut up about.

(In no way do I dislike the Saints. As a matter of fact, I think they’re a good football team and I have high respects for them. I’m just tired of the fans bagging on everyone else’s team around here saying that the Saints own them when they go on and lose to the Cowboys).

I get a lot of crap as well. My favorite team being the Colts (has been for years so I’m not a bandwaggoner) everyone says the Saints would beat the Colts. But after tonight, I’m not so sure.

    Good game nonetheless.

Also, about Folk. If you look at all the years before this year, he was a damn good kicker. That’s the reason they don’t want to get rid of him, I guess. He’s just in a slump. Next year will be different.

For all you “Fire Folk” people, who are they going to bring in this late in the season? Is there really a situation where there’s a good, experienced kicker sitting watching the games on his TV like the rest of us, but no one has managed to sign him yet when it’s not uncommon for kickers to get cut after missing a big kick? I’d love to hear some names.

Unlike Jim, I wanted two 18-0 teams in the Super Bowl. Oh well.

The Saints were awful. And the worst thing is now the media morons are going to resume their blathering about what a great team Dallas is. Stupid Saints. I’m tempted to declare them Grade A FRAUDS.

Hey Joe, I have questioned the Saints all year. Drew Brees is now 12-12 in Dec/Jan games since 2005. He has yet to prove he’s a championship-level QB (1-2 in the playoffs) and the defense was exposed. Plus, they were talking all week about playing for 16-0, almost like they were looking ahead.

The saints are certainly not frauds, they still are an amazingly explosion offensive team and their defense is much improved. It definitely has been a rough 3 game outing for them, despite going 2-1. Regardless, trying to muster the motivation to play a game that really doesn’t matter can be tough, even if they looked to be wanting to play for real.

And although I really wanted a Dallas loss in order to help my 49ers playoff situation, I am partially glad the won in order to challenge all the people to swear off the Cowboys in December like it is some curse. Tony Romo gets so much flack, but he’s played great, even in their losses the past two weeks.

Jerry Jones is smart enough to give that kicker the boot, as for who they could grab who would be better i know how about anyone who can kick a 24 YD. FG IN A DOME!

Pete, the game DID matter to the Saints. They are being challenged for home-field by the Vikings. The Vikings have 2 losses but one was to an AFC team so it doesn’t affect a tiebreaker. The Saints have a rougher time away from the Superdome and couldn’t afford to lose last night.

Hey Ryan. I’m in Louisiana too (Shreveport) and agree with you whole-heartedly. I remember years ago when nobody liked the Saints. Then right after Katrina, Saints fans started popping up. Now, all of a sudden this year, you’re a potential Holocaust victim if you’re not obsessed with the Saints. lol

So, in what part of Louisiana do you live?

The Saints “frauds”? Lol. On what level? The Colts should have 3-4 losses right now if it weren’t for weird comebacks or chokes; Are they frauds? The Patriots won a couple games on miracles a couple years ago; Were they frauds? What does that word even mean???

Hahaha, the Cowboys are going to replace Nick Folk and they’re giving a tryout to…..wait for it….Sean Suisham, the guy that Redskins recently cut. Wow.

It should be pointed out that the Colts have been fortunate that Matt Stover, the guy they brought in to replace Adam Vinatieri, has been good for them this year.

FourRustedHorses, it was bit a of a joke. Its just a thread of humor for us in the Acadiana triangle and NOLA that anything North of us is “the rest of America!” Sorry if I was too subtle, sorry if too offensive, sorry to the platypus, etc….
