Prince sings for the Vikings

The Artist Formerly — And Currently — Known as Prince has written a theme song for the Minnesota Vikings. The Minneapolis native was at the Vikings’ 34-3 NFC Divisional Playoff rout of the Dallas Cowboys and, inspired, went home immediately after the game and wrote “Purple and Gold,” which you can listen to in its entirety at the Vikings’ website. Here are some of the lyrics:

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

I’ll give it this much: while it’s nowhere near classic Prince, it’s certainly better than this Miami Dolphins dreck by T-Pain and his magical Auto-Tune machine:

It’s like a fight song meets a Christmas carol.

Why is America incapable of writing a good sports anthem?

Prince can no longer write music. He has been messed up by Jehovahs Witnesses. He had to give away CDs at his last concert, to get his music to chart. Sad case of a Religious Cult messing up the mind of what used to be a great song writer. This song is yet another example of that.
