Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers has apparently joined the list of pro jocks who have shown the world their penises. I guess Oden has a lot of time on his hands rehabbing from a knee injury. The photos have surfaced on the website World Star Hip Hop. The photos were posted today and already have 231,000 page views on the site. The next day, Oden apologized.

Oden says the pictures, taken with his cellphone and sent to a former girlfriend, were taken about 1½ years ago. A friend told the 21-year-old Tuesday morning that the pictures were making the rounds on the Internet.
“I would like to apologize to everybody: Portland, the fans, the organization,” Oden told reporters at the Blazers practice facility. “It was very embarrassing.”

In my opinion the only person who should have to apologize here is the person who posted pictures that were suppose to be private and made them public. Greg Oden didn’t do anything wrong and has nothing to apologize for. What’s wrong with any of us wanting to take nude photos of ourself and sharing them privately with someone else. If that’s what you want to do more power to you. Just one more example of our puritan society that is so afraid of the human body exposed. I’m not suggesting that everyone should go out and post nude photos of him/herself (although if xtube is a fair representation you’d think a vast majority do), but for god sake Greg Oden didn’t either. His private actions were assulted and he was victimized. Yet he’s the one apologizing. I don’t get it.

Don’t know why this is such a big deal. Why is it supposed to be an embarrassment. It’s just a penis, all men have one. Strangers are gonna see your penis or vagina one day, that’s a fact. It may be a doctor, it may be a nurse, it may be a policeman, it may even be a mortician. In fact, before our lives are over, most of the above will see our penis and vaginas and that’s just the way it is. And the mortician was promised to see you naked the minute you were born. So why the heck is he apologizing, I wouldn’t. American hangups!
