The excuses are running out for CBS regarding their decision to air an advocacy ad against abortion, created by the hate group Focus on the Family and starring Tim Tebow, during the Super Bowl. The latest is news they rejected a gay-themed ad from GoDaddy.com that showed a former pro football player who had become in touch with his fashion-designer side (video after the jump). Now comes word that they have not yet approved or rejected an ad from gay-dating site ManCrunch.com, but that they’ve told ManCrunch that all Super Bowl ads have been sold out.
ManCrunch officials said they believe CBS has no intention of airing a commercial for their gay dating service, “but do not want to officially ‘reject’ the spot out of fear there may be a backlash from gay advocacy groups.”
However, a representative from the network told Pop Tarts that advertising spots were still open, and was unsure where that comment originated.
“The ad is still under review, the process takes a little while,” a rep from CBS said. “We still have a lot of ads we have yet to review.”
I’ve never heard of Mancrunch and I don’t know where they’d get $2.5M to air the ad. And part of me wonders if it’s some crazy ploy by anti-gay forces. But part of the excuse being pushed out for accepting the Focus on the Family ad was how bad the economy is, and CBS is suddenly going to go under if they don’t accept the anti-abortion ad. Well here are two ads that do not violate their policy against advocacy ads! So what’s their excuse now?
Also, GLAAD is now putting pressure on CBS to explain why they’ve accepted this ad and rejected an ad from the United Church of Christ focusing on the church’s policies of inclusion.

oh i get it! because you cant like sports and be gay at the same time.. u need to be a queeny gay stereotype! thanks for representing “me”, GoDaddy!
-if they reject this ad, it’s because it’s freakin stupid.

I emailed CBS (their contact info is listed on the GLAAD page) and I urge everyone else to do the same!
We have 10 days to kill this ad!

You’ve never heard of Mancrunch.com? That’s where I hooked up with ikemay iazzapay and oytray ikmanay. Shhhhh

Both are just dumb ads. The ManCrunch is definitely an attention-seeking ploy to get members.

Both ads just sucked. Please don’t air them. Horrible ads. Not funny, not interesting. Just stupid and I’d feel that way gay or not.

“The ManCrunch is definitely an attention-seeking ploy to get members.”
Um, that’s the purpose of EVERY ad!
I looooooved the GoDaddy ad. I laughed out loud. Kudos to them for having such funny writers!

I didn’t click on the ManCrunch ad but the GoDaddy ad is their typical tasteless garbage. Danica Patrick wants to be taken seriously in her sport but to me all these ads say about her is that she’s a bimbo.

*sigh*
The ManCrunch ad is designed solely to cause controversy and go viral, thereby gaining members. The company knew very well the ad wouldn’t run, so this is the way in which they advertise the site for free, because lots of gay bloggers will pick up the story and everyone will click on the link and check the site out because you all hate FotF and will blog about anything gay which might enable you to say that CBS is discriminating.
That’s what I meant Cyd, not the Captain Obvious explanation.

That Lola ad is many levels of wrong. Bad for the gay community, bad for the African-American community. Just bad. Kind of homophobic.
Seriously, people don’t want to see two guys kissing. It’s a sad reality. Don’t push gayness onto people, they are don’t going to take it.

Holy shit people need to lighten the fuck up. The GoDaddy ad was funny and in a way highlights the fact that professional athletes are forced into an institution that doesn’t allow them to be themselves… he retired and did what he wanted to. In addition this whole ‘you can’t show a gay who’s a queen on tv because it paints all gays as queens’ shit is ridiculous.
People need to stop finding things to be upset about

All you religion bashers need to step back. Focus on the Family is NOT a gay bashing organization. James Dobson maybe but not the whole organization. Yes there does seem to be a double standard in airing the commercials but I’m not that bent out of shape about it. CBS can air whatever they want to; it’s a private network. Three cheers for Tim Tebow and his mom about the message they’ll be spreading. Can’t wait to check it out on Sunday!

I don’t mind the GoDaddy.com “Lola” ad. Yes, Lola’s a stereotype, but we’ve seen that character before–sometimes for good, and sometimes not. Lola reminds me of a bit of Johnny Weir–who says all gay athletes are butch? It would be nice if he actually got to talk, but whatever. The ad says (to me) that anybody can use GoDaddy.com… they don’t discriminate. And if they’re going to spend their $3 million to show a swishy ex-football player character rather than a pool party full of buxom babes in bikinis, I’m all for that.

Yeah. Just because it has a thoroughly offensive gay stereotype doesn’t make it a gay ad and doesn’t mean that our community should be jumping to its defence if it’s not aired. I’m gay and I don’t want to see that homphobic piece of trash during the Super Bowl. Get a freakin’ grip, people. What is this? 2010 or 1910?

I’m glad the go-daddy ad didn’t make it. It portrays gays in a very negative way adding to there stereotypical view that middle America has for us. Sure would hate to see a former football player who wasn’t dressed in pink and acting feminine in a com’l creating a business. Come on folks, why do we want to continue to feed the negative portrayal that all gay guys have limp wrists, lisps, wear boas and pink outfits with bows in their hair! Sad, sad, sad that the gay community isn’t outraged at go-daddy for being so shallow minded. All their com’ls sucked by the way. I don’t need go-daddy to find porn on the internet, which was the message from most of their com’ls.

Thank you Rick, I thought I was the only thinking like this! I’m offended that others in our community are outraged!
