What were they thinking? The Focus on the Family ad that aired during the Super Bowl aimed at fighting abortion instead promoted domestic violence with Tim Tebow tackling his mother. When it aired, everyone at the party looked at each other with a “what in hell did I just see” look. You can see it after the jump.
The first Focus on the Family Super Bowl ad aired on CBS at about 2:10pmET today. It starts with Pam Tebow elluding to the suggested abortion of her son Tim, and then the Heisman Trophy winner joins her.
PAM: I call him my miracle baby. He almost didn’t make it into this world. I can remember so many times when I almost lost him. It was so hard. Well he’s all grown up now, and I still worry about his health. Everybody treats him like he’s different, but to me, he’s just my baby. He’s my Timmy, and I love him.
TIM: Thanks Mom, love you too.

The Focus on the Family website has video of the Tebows telling the full story. http://www.focusonthefamily.com/

This was supposed to be the one which went further than the one airing in-game. If this was supposed to be the more controversial one, seems like CBS wasn’t as “pro-advocacy” as it sounded.

Watched that commercial again and you’re right DruggyBear–it does look like eharmony meets Oedipus! Hilarious!
Can’t wait for the parody videos. SNL, Funny or Die, Wanda Sykes… get going!

Here’s from another pro-life’s webpage:
“Officials at the pro-life group announced today that they are unveiling a second ad that will air before the Super Bowl begins.
The second commercial plans to go further than the first and will reveal more details about Pam Tebow’s decision not to have an abortion than CBS would allow in the first ad already planned for during the Super Bowl.”
Could CBS be doing a bait-and-switch?

so, 7pm… only diff in the ad I just saw was Tim “tackling” his mom. So far, not seeing the hype or hoopla.

CBS’ homophobia and hatred of women have convinced me to stop watching that network entirely. It’s not like I actually need them to be entertained.

While I recognize the strong distaste for the organization among GLBT people and pro-choice activists, i don’t see the misogyny. In both ads the message affirms the mother’s choice – albeit, they encourage the choice in favor of not having an abortion, but it seems to me that if you are truly in favor of empowering women to make a choice as personally complicated as whether or not to terminate a pregnancy it makes sense to provide them with as much information as possible on both sides of the issue, before they make that choice.

Oh, I thought he tackled Betty White.

Alton, if the KKK ran an affirming ad, would you think that’s OK?

My gayday goes off for Tim. He pings like crazy. Riley Cooper too. I think Tim is a pro-life gay man. I also do not think he knew that Focus on the Famil is so anti-gay. I think he’s being told what to do. But, who knows. He certainly pings.

Yeah, seeing that ad can we really say he’s heterosexual?

Tim Tebow is really one of the Pod People.

I don’t think that the two organizations are comparable, only because FOTF isn’t a terrorist organization that endorses and commits acts of violence, but I get your point. But, I do think that they have as much right to air an issue ad as gay rights orgs have to put pro-equality ads out. I also think that those who aren’t that committed to any one side of the debate are going to look at the ad and not get the controversy. They’re going to wonder why people are calling these folks bigots, and they’ll go to the website to see the full interview, and they’ll click links to issues, and they’ll consume a bunch of skewed information. I think this was a huge win for them, and i think we gave it to them.

“i think we gave it to them.”
That’s what gay people do best.

Lot of drama over nothing. If you agree with Focus on the Family, you will go to the website. If you dont, you wont…so yet again something was completely overblown for no apparent reason.
