First Kobe Bryant. Then Joakim Noah. Now with the NHL in preseason form, Philadelphia Flyer Wayne Simmonds seems to clearly call Sean Avery a 'fucking faggot' during tonight's game. Late last season and in the offseason Avery emerged as a fierce advocate for gay rights. Simmonds was, just a couple days ago, the victim of disgusting racial taunting when a fan tossed a banana onto the ice during a Simmonds penalty shot; Simmonds is black.
"To be here now having to answer the questions about what he did is disappointing for me. I'm disappointed for him," Avery said according to ESPN.com.

If this ‘faggot’ comment is true, it will be interesting to see how the NHL responds. The NBA has put the price tag for using the word at $100k $50k.
After the game Simmonds neither confirmed nor denied saying a gay slur:
Honestly, we were going back and forth for a while there. I don't recall everything that I did say to him but he said to me some things I didn't like and maybe I said some things that he didn't like. I can't recall every single word I said.
