I seldom watch Super Bowl commercials, since I watch every play of the game and use the breaks to get food, socialize or run to the bathroom. So I missed the ad for the Toyota Camry, but advertising columnist Stuart Elliott of the New York Times gave it a thumbs up:
A commercial for the “reinvented” Toyota Camry reinvented Super Bowl advertising with what may be the first gay-friendly moment in a game spot. One character, an awkward guy, seems as accepting of finding seven hunks in his living room as he is of finding seven babes.
It also can be seen as the first bisexual-friendly Super Bowl ad.

Sorry, I think calling this “gay-friendly” or even “bi-friendly” is a bit of a stretch.

I originally thot like RGMike, but after watching it again, I agree. The doorway guy’s non-chalant nod is at the very least appreciative of the alternative option. So, that’s a step in the right direction! But the cop giving a massage from behind w/obvious pleasure on the offender’s face is probably more Gay!!
So, go Toyota!!!

[...] their Super Bowl ad, but this was innocuous compared to the hateful homophobic tweets about the gay-positive ad. Share this:FacebookTwitterRedditEmailStumbleUponDiggLinkedInLike this:LikeBe the first to like [...]

That’s funny and gay friendly- the guy at the door doesn’t scream away in horror when confronted with the male couch

Gay-friendly or not, does the spot make any sense? What does the robot baby have to do with the car?

The guys’s reaction to the couch struck me more as a “fair’s fair” sort of acceptance rather than excitement. Still ‘gay friendly’ in that they’re showing mostly naked hunks to an audience that stereotypically doesn’t like to see such images.
