English soccer player Ravel Morrison sends homophobic tweet to fan

Soccer player Ravel Morrison, formerly of Manchester United and now with West Ham of the English Premier League, is in hot water after sending a homophobic tweet to a fan. From Goal.com:

Morrison’s tweet, which has since been deleted, read: “crack head ? Go suck out u little faggot your a guy that talks if u see me you try slap me I’m in manchester every week.”

Alan Duffy of the Justin Campaign, which fights homophobia in soccer, condemned Morrison’s tweet:

“It’s extremely disappointing to hear that yet another professional footballer in England has used homophobic language,” Mr Duffy told Goal.com

“Ravel Morrison may well not be aware of the damage those kind of remarks can do, but when football stars indulge in that kind of language, it only reinforces the view that football is not a welcoming place of LGBT fans or players.”

Morrison, 19, has been in trouble before. Goal.com says he has also faced allegations of  witness intimidation and an altercation with his girlfriend. I guess a homophobic tweet is par for the course.

I don’t follow soccer much, but I gather that Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United finally had enough of this guy and shipped him to West Ham.

According to a soccer website, he was given a 12-month rehabilitation order (narrowly avoiding prison) for witness intimidation; was charged with criminal damage to his girlfriend’s mobile phone during a row; and he was even advised to seek counseling regarding domestic abuse after an incident involving his own mother. He repeatedly missed training sessions and branded the club’s end-of-season awards dinner as “a complete joke”

The guy clearly has anger management issues and his anger isn’t limited to gays.

It would be good to see the fan tweet that led to this response. Not because Morrison would be justified in his idiotic comments, but just for full context.

Also, West Ham is not in the English Premier League. They were relegated last year and are currently in the division below, the nPower Championship.

The English FA was quick to strip John Terry of the Captain’s Band and there’s a criminal investigation into his use of a racial slur… yet nothing is being done about this… THAT’s the real crime in all this.

Thug. Purely and very simply a thug. He should be relegated to the nasty little hateful world he seems to idolize, and kept there.
