Rapper Erick Sermon: You can’t be gay and be a rapper or athlete

Rapper Erick Sermon denies that he is gay and says it’s not possible to be a gay rapper or an athlete.

The EPMD member said that Hip Hop will never have openly gay rappers because it can play against an emcee to admit to homosexuality.

“No. It’s the same about when you talk about sports players, too. We don’t know if that’s going to ever happen because that’s a curse to be in sports and to be gay and be in Hip Hop and be gay. You can’t be on a basketball team, a football team and be homo. … They’ll kill you.”

In a rambling video interview, Sermon decried seeing “girl on girl” or “boy on boy” action on A&E or VH1, saying this because these channels are controlled by gays and it’s not something he wants his kids to watch, lest they be influenced.

He also denies rumors that he is gay, saying you could ask a lot of women who will deny it. “People know about me, about the women, there’s no hiding that. Niggas known I was dominant with that. Not to be boasting, but are you serious?” No homo, he.

What an ignorant primate .By that I mean his primitive and archaic thinking not his race nor the color of his skin.

    Look at those plucked eyebrows.

Despite this downlow asshole looking like Beetlejuice from Howard Stern, I would bet this guy gets more cock than me.

Cyd, this isn’t a comment to the story, but I just googled Brady Quinn wondering what happened to this guy, and you get “Brady Quinn Gay” as part of a search option on Google.

I just thought you would think that was funny. ;)

What does plucked eyebrows have to do with it? I know plenty of heterosexual guys who have their eyebrows waxed. Thats about as stereotypical as the statements this douchebag made.

Cyd, I’m on Brady Quinn’s twitter, and this guy is evil to say the least. But, one thing I noticed is that he does not follow Tim Tebow. I wonder what’s up with that? Considering they are both deeply into God.

    lmao @ adam.

To be called a gay slur by some a-hole with plucked eyebrows, which is more offensive?

I wonder how many gay men designed his entire outfit.

@Kyle. Then you would be very disturbed in many areas with a heavy latino population. Oh and my advice is not to go to the Jersey shore this summer where there are plenty of eyebrow waxed guidos walking around. Why is it creepy? I do admit that there are some levels of eyebrow waxing that are creepy. There’s a fine line between having your eyebrows “cleaned up” and looking too arched but manscaping is not a gay thing.

He’s funny cause he’s just asinine, asiten, asieleven, and asitweleve. You have prominent rappers in the game now that have said themselves that there are gay men and women currently in the rap game.

Here’s the bigger question who is Erick Sermon? Why don’t we ask Drake his opinions on gays in rap. He’s the hottest rapper out now. When he addressed the gay rumors he didn’t lash out and call them gay in response he just said “that to me is why, for what. You’re a real loser sorry.”

So is he really saying its not possible, as in gay guys can’t be gay and rappers or gay and athletes or that its not possible in that it won’t be accepted? Because if he’s saying its not possible to be gay and a rapper than thats as ignorant as those who originally thought AIDS was a gay white male disease. Either way I am glad there is more of a movement in hip hop and rap to tackle the issue of homophobia. This jerk off needs to be checked!!

@mdterp01 I originally was hoping to give him the benefit of the doubt (that he knew there were gay rappers but they had to stay closeted etc.) but then watched the whole video where he rambles on about his kids being forced by the gay power brokers to watch “boy on boy action” and he exposes his bigotry and homophobia.

@Kyle. Classy. I swear the moment someone gets challenged or doesn’t agree with something that is said it turns into a personal attack. Really? I thought we were adults. Your comments r just as ignorant as this rapper fool.

Back in October, I wrote the email under my post to Jim that I’m hoping was never received or overlooked. I figured the reason there was no mention of the rapper Murs on Outsports was because it wasn’t directly related to sports. But if the incoherent ramblings of a has been like Erick Sermon are OK, why wouldn’t you want to take a moment to shout out a currently relevant, popular rapper who is an ally of the GLBT community, trying to expose his fan base to a different perspective?

    “Hi Jim,

I wanted to write to you with this story suggestion because I feel it’s an incredibly important topic that might get missed by our media. Further, Outsports is the only Gay oriented media organization that I can think of where my emails have ever actually been answered thoughtfully by actual people and not just form letters.

When we think of Gays and music, Hip Hop is generally not the first genre that comes to mind as even being tolerant much less accepting, however, a rapper from LA named Murs (rhymes with ‘nurse’) has taken a huge step forward in trying to change that. On his new album, Love and Rockets Vol. 1, he has a song named ‘Animal Style’ named after the way you can have a burger prepared at In N Out which happens to be the location of the songs climax.

‘Animal Style’ is the story of Jonathan, a high school senior, who everyone knows is gay and is biding his time until he can go away to college and begin his real life as a proud gay man without the stress and worry of being gay in high school.

It’s also the story of Roderick. Rod passes for straight. He grew up on the streets, in gangs, in and out of jail but totally in the closet. Rod is Jonathan’s boyfriend on the down low, ignoring him in public but incredibly affectionate when they’re alone. When people find out that Rod might be gay too, he can’t handle living a lie anymore, but he also can’t handle living the truth and the story comes to a tragic but all too familiar end for a lot of young gay men growing up in the inner city.

The song is really beautiful and it’s the only time in my 28 years of loving hip hop that I can think of a straight rapper who was brave enough to make a song about homosexuality where we weren’t the punch line. I think he should be applauded and nominated for a friggin GLAAD award!

I know that OUTSPORTS is not a music site, but Murs is a huge sports fan who Tweets often about his NFL Fantasy Football league that he’s in with his fellow rappers. I thought that it would be a great opportunity to spread the word about this ally to our community while at the same time getting his thoughts about the current NFL season, how his fantasy team is doing and who are his picks to make it to the SuperBowl.

I’ve attached the song to this email so that you can hear it for yourself. If you want to check out his Twitter account, it’s @MURS.

Thanks for taking the time to read this letter. I hope all is well with you and the entire OUTSPORTS staff!

    Sincerely,

    - Ethan”

Still no response from OutSports as to why Erick Sermon’s negativity is news worthy but Murs trying to start a positive dialogue isn’t?

@ethan This item was written because Sermon compared rappers to athletes and there was a sports angle. If Murs said something about athletes, let me know. thanks!

That seems like a cop out to me. You can find a sports angle if you want to hence the completely pointless story about Asian guys getting more hook ups off Adam4Adam because of Jeremy Lin. Erick Sermon’s opinion on sports is as irrelevant as his opinion on hip hop these days, but it seems we as a community and maybe America as a whole are more interested in the negative stories.

Thank you for the response but I can’t help but feel dissappointed.
