The website Uniwatch is been having a contest to pick the worst sports uniform ever. The competition is fierce but for true ugliness, it’s hard to beat the baseball minor league’s Tucson Toros from 1980:

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the American Football League, and to sell more jerseys, the NFL is having former AFL franchises wear their original uniforms. This has been done in the past several years with various teams, but the AFL focus has prompted a fierce debate on the fashion aesthetics [...]

For those who like simple blue-and-white uniforms, shield your eyes now. The Memphis Grizzlies have introduced their third alternate uniform for the 2009-10 season. The new unis are supposed to reflect (and they do reflect) the shine and shimmer of Memphis’ famous Beale Street. When I drove across the country last December, we stopped in [...]

That wacky “guys’-guy” Brad Gilbert has done it again. The tennis legend-in-his-own-mind had this to say about Juan Martin Del Potro’s seemingly masculine all-black outfit at the U.S. Open:
I’m giving a big thumbs-up to Del Potro’s all-black gear. It looks physical, he’s stepping up. They had him in too much of a fruity-looking outfit at [...]

I almost feel sorry for Josh McDaniels. It seems like there’s been a problem coming out of the Denver Broncos team every week since the guy took over. The latest isn’t the home preseason loss to the quarterback he ran out of town, it’s not his comments about Brandon Marshall this weekend: The guy showed [...]

A couple years ago we uncovered a delicate issue with the NFL’s Shop that wouldn’t allow people to put the word “Gay” on a customizable NFL jersey, despite the fact that one of the League’s player was named Randall Gay (they have since corrected the problem, though they still do not allow “Lesbian” or “Queer”). [...]

The NFL preseason kicked off last night with a Titans victory over the Bills, 21-18. The score was of little interest, as with most preseason games; But some storylines did come from it. First, Vince Young looks done. He was 5-for-10 with a pick and a TD: The TD came when a backup corner bit [...]

There he goes again. Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis, the NFL’s one-stop shop for crazy press conferences, has again declared that he’s not gay: Despite the fact that no one in the press had asked him. He was responding to a question about his recently dyed hair. My guess is he’d heard so much [...]

The Beckhams are at it again, stripping down to their underwear for a new campaign from Emporio Armani. Next up is a reported Armani ad with Becks and Angelina Jolie, though Beckham says he wouldn’t do it because he’s married.

I find it kind of funny when I see companies pop up trying to wrap themselves in athletic nomenclature so they can better market their wares to gay men. The most glaring example is surely Jock Soap. Today I stumbled across an underwear company in Australia called TeamM8 that’s doing just the same. Don’t get [...]

What does tennis smell like? Lacoste will soon be trying to define it as they release their new fragrance for men called Challenge. The campaign revolves around tennis, and the bottle is even modeled after the handle of a tennis racquet (pic after the jump). The cologne itself (why does no one use the word [...]

Being down the street from Nike world headquarters has its perks … and apparently its drawbacks. The ever-molting Oregon Ducks have again changed their football uniforms. This season they will have five different jerseys that they will wear: Black, green, yellow and two white. They’ve also thrown in some silver, for good measure. As opposed [...]

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis might have the best physique in the NFL — tall, sculpted, all muscle. But he “hates that they don’t have enough high fashion designers for guys with my build.” It seems like an odd complaint until you realize that Davis is very much into clothes and looking good [...]
