A cool little contest has come down from ESPN and the Tribeca Film Festival. They’re calling all filmmakers, aspiring filmmakers, jocks, fans and the like to develop a short 30-second trailer to promote the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival. The challenge is this: Take a scene from Cool Runnings or Remember The Titans (they’ve chosen the [...]

‘Golden shower’ hits Hawaii Bowl
If you weren’t paying really close attention to college football this month, you may have missed that Notre Dame was actually invited to a bowl game — to play Hawaii in the, what else, Hawaii Bowl. Notre Dame got its first bowl win since 1993, 49-21. In the process, the TV commentator offered a suggestive [...]
ESPN analysts debate best-looking QB
I’m sittng here at the computer with my TV tuned to ESPN. At the end of “NFL Live” there’s a mention by host Trey Wingo of a survey by some economists that indicated that good-looking quarterbacks are better paid than those who aren’t so handsome. It seems pretty ridiculous, but I found an article that [...]
Jeff Garcia ‘loves to date hot quarterbacks’
We have written for years about the rumors surrounding NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia and his declaration that he is not gay. So, I found myself doing a double take when I heard ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser say this about Garcia, the Tampa starter, during Monday’s Panthers-Buccaneer’s game:
“Jeff Garcia, who loves to date hot quarterbacks. Tried to [...]
Sports turkeys of the year
Sports Illustrated has their list of sports’ turkeys of 2008. It’s a great list this year, graced by jokers like Kimbo Slice and Chad Johnson, Hall Of Famers like Roger Clemens and Brett Favre, and closers like the Mets’ bullpen and the Memphis Tigers free-throw shooters. For my money, Mike Singletary takes the stuffing.
Whom would [...]
Mayne Street
ESPN’s been promoting the hell out of their new Web series, Mayne Street, featuring Kenny Mayne as he navigates the scary world of corporate ESPN. They’re three episodes in, and I did find myself laughing out loud at one of the episodes. The other two: Not so much.
Troubled Seahawks fan: No Homo!
Kudos to Deadspin for catching this obviously well-balanced, well-intentioned Seahawks fan at a Seattle-based Pro-Prop 8 rally (actually, an Anti-Anti-Prop 8 rally, but who’s counting). The cop behind him is giggling for a good reason, as you can see in this picture.
Of course, I couldn’t begin to guess at the sexuality of anyone wearing [...]
Nude butts to sweep soccer?
Hopefully it is a maneuvre that will catch on around the world of soccer. Italian pro soccer team Calcio Catania lined up for a penalty kick against Torino when three Catania players lined up in front of the goalie and pulled down their shorts so the goalkeeper couldn’t see the kick.
Serie A side Catania has [...]
Video: Florida coed battles bathroom stall, loses
This is getting a lot of attention and shows what happens when a drunken University of Florida coed rushes to get the next bathroom stall. Hilarity ensues at the 1:10 mark of the video. This happened in 2004 but is just seeing the light of the Net now. Note: No stalls were injured during the [...]
Keyshawn Johnson: Interior Designer
Earlier this summer, a producer friend of mine was pitching a gay-football TV show to, among other networks, A&E. He was told that they didn’t want to do football shows. Apparently, they’re OK with a loud-mouthed football player doing an interior-design show:
A&E Network has two real-life original series in production. The new series Keyshawn Johnson: [...]
Kobe, A-Rod rock Guitar Hero ad
I’ve never been a Kobe Bryant fan, but he’s won me over with this great TV commercial for Guitar Hero IV. He is the perfect lead singer in the ad for a four-man band with Alex Rodriguez, Michael Phelps and Tony Hawk. The earnestness and enthusiasm Bryant pretends to bring to the performance is just [...]
Chase: Colt has ’such a great ass, er grasp …’
Funny little slip by Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel, talking about Texas QB Colt McCoy:
Gay horse to race in Breeders’ Cup
From the Onion. Priceless.
Hat tip to Matthew
First Openly Gay Racehorse To Compete Sunday
Matt Stairs likes it in the rear
He was only acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 30th, just in time to be eligible for the postseason. So, asked a question in the press conference about feeling like part of the team after his 8th-inning two-run, pinch-hit homer — a total BOMB deep into the right field bleachers — gave the Phillies [...]
Dumb NFL play of the week
With Jon Kitna out with a back injury, Detroit Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky made the first start of his NFL career yesterday against the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome. In the first quarter the Lions recovered an Adrian Peterson fumble at the Detroit 1-yard line. Orlovsky threw two incomplete passes, and then…well, see for [...]
