Democrats steal Outsports logo?

It’s no wonder the Democrats looked to Outsports for inspiration when designing their new logo. Having used the blue circle surrounding the letters “OS” or behind the word “Outsports,” we knew it was a winner when we designed it eight years ago. Royalties! We want royalties!

Lisa Simpson giving head in Olympics logo?

Doh! Someone took the 2012 Olympics logo, added a splash of color, and voila! You clearly see Lisa Simpson giving someone a blowjob. The logo (after the jump), like most Olympics logos, was crappy to start with. But now that people think it’s kiddie incest, and with the new logo’s Facebook page registering over 150,000 fans, you gotta wonder why no one in London saw this coming.

Nats’ cap a sign of terrorism?

I’ve written many times here about the travails of the Washington Nationals, the team with the worst record in baseball this season. Now, courtesy of Deadspin and the Washington Post, comes news that the Nationals’ “W” logo has been construed as a symbol of terrorism. It seems that Tyler Allard, an aide to Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.), was visiting Jordan and Israel recently. He wore a green Nationals’ cap with the “W” script…

An Israeli airport security guard pointed to the hat with the curly W team logo and demanded with a tone of disgust, “Why do you wear that?”

“Good question,” his father, former longtime Senate aide Nick Allard, replied. “They are hopeless. They desperately need relief. You never know when they will hit, and because their defense is so bad, they suffer more than they can dish out. It’s not rational and I can’t explain why, but we are loyal and we love them.” The more he talked, the more upset the security folks became, Nick Allard reports. Their luggage was checked and rechecked, and they were quizzed by security.

When they were finally cleared to board, Allard wrote in an e-mail, the head of the security detail said: “We do not appreciate your Hamas headgear.” Green apparently is a Palestinian “color,” Allard speculated, and the vaguely Arabic Nats logo might have been mistaken for an extremist emblem.

So if you’re a member of that intimate club of Nats fans and you find yourself traveling overseas, you may want to wear this cap instead. That, or, don’t give a smartass reply when being questioned by security.

New logo but same old Detroit Lions?

Army and Navy’s SWEET Alternate Uniforms

If you didn’t see the Army-Navy game this weekend — and judging from the ratings, you didn’t — you missed a friggin’ sweet set of alternate jerseys the Black Knights and Midshipmen wore. Dubbed the “Enforcer” jersey, this marketing ploy/fun idea made an otherwise boring game more entertaining.

Navy’s uniform is pretty standard 2008 uniform fare. White with a blue and gold shoulders, but a quite cool anchor on the right shoulder and the US Navy logo on the right. Army’s uniform on the other hand was definitely unique and awesome…

The Knights wore Black jerseys with gray/green camoflauge helmets, pants, AND numbers. They had writing on the pants as well, one leg said “West Point” and the other “We own the ground.” Of course, the uniforms worked a little too well, since Navy ran on them like they weren’t there, winning the game 34-0. At least they looked good in losing.

Boy is that bird aggressive!

There was talk from the Baltimore Orioles braintrust that they wanted to scrap the current incarnation of their logo in order to go with a more aggressive version of the “swinging bird” logo. Of course, in today’s world of steroids and growth hormones, you can’t exactly have the bird incarnation of Barry Bonds on your hat. So they re-thought things… they still wanted aggressive, they still wanted a bird. Here’s what they came up with!

See how MAD that bird is now? He’s got his claw clenched up like a fist! He’s gonna peck your F’ing eye out with his razor sharp steel beak!
I’m amazed Peter Angelos can’t even get this right. Of course, logo changes are really designed to inspire more sales, and nothing inspires sales more than playoff appearances. Unfortunately for those fans of the Orange & Black, the O’s haven’t sniffed the playoffs since, well, this happened. And that was 11 years ago now.

Well, at least Nick Markakis and Luke Scott are nice to look at.
